45 ACP Coated Bullets

Finally found some bullets to reload, coated lead bullets. However, they are oversized at 0.453". Will this be a problem and would my previous load for .452 need to be reduced?

Lead bullets are typically slightly oversized from nominal grove diameter, to better obturate in the barrel. 1 mil is a pretty small difference (it's often 2 or 3).

Regardless, you should start over and work up. Different bullet shapes, materials, coatings, etc... all can have a marked difference in pressure.

I agree with Carfur. I shoot blue bullets in my 9mms. They are slightly larger then the .355, not by much. Never had an issue with them. However, they do tend to run on the higher (hotter) side compared to copper jacketed bullets. I knocked mine down by a few .1grs. They run just fine. I also have to bell the cases a little more then copper jacketed bullets to keep from stripping off the coating. I've been told that they are safe to run in suppressed guns, but I'm not going to test that. I spent way to much for my suppressors to clog them up with bullet coating!

If your gun will shoot .453" cast bullets, then ,453" PCed bullets will be OK. Just use a plunk test to make sure the larger bullet will chamber easily. I have always used (or at least started with) cast lead data and methods for all the coated bullets I have reloaded, including sizing and case prep...

I have zero experience with .453, coated or uncoated.

Load up a couple/few and try them in your gun.

Coated is the modern equivalent of cast and lubed; a thou or two over nominal is where you're supposed to run them.
