44Mag load for cast

Hi all

I have been looking for the 44mag load data (rifle) and what I have found is the following for a 240gr cast projectile:

20in barrel, start at 4.7gr Titegroup with a max of 10gr. The Hodgson website mentions Large Pistol primer. I wouldn't be able to safely swap it with large rifle, correct? I have a few of these in stock and was wondering.

Basically, I am looking for approx 1250fps with 200 or 240gr cast, 16in barrel. I have Titegroup handy but can get some other commonly available powders.

Thank you

Titegroup?
that's for like using 4.5 grns of for a 9mm with a 115

That is quite a fast powder for 44 Mag
I use mostly H110/W296 in a 5 inch barrel

but cannot make a recommendation for a 20 inch barreled gun
I use to have a 10 inch 44 mag Ruger and used same powder
You might find a load manual that lists loads for 44 mag rifle

Titegroup powder will need a gas checked cast bullet.
H110 or W296 with mag "Pistol Primer" would be my choice, or Alliant 2400, or 4227
Accuracy from an old Marlin 1894, with micro groove rifling, was poor.

The newer Ruger-built Marlin rifle may be very different?

Slug barrel for correct bullet diameter. Then go .001" larger.

Suggest you use trimmed new brass and taper crimp dies (seat and then taper crimp separate) with bullets sized to the exact slugged groove diameter of your barrel. A standard handgun silhouette load for decades with a 44 Mag with a 240 grain is 23 grains of H-110/296 with Large rifle primers. Start load and then work up, do not ever start at 23.

For a rifle with cast I prefer powder coated plain base, sized after PC. I can get 2,500 without fouling, no GC and sub 1/2" groups at 100 with RCBS 200 grain 358 plain base.

Unique can be used in a 44 for target loads all the way up to magnum loads

Believe large rifle primers are taller than large pistol

For years I shot unique powder under 240 plain base cast in 14” contender. It was a great combination once I solved leading problem by tumbling projectiles in White Label Lube prior to loading. Great results in the neighborhood of 9.5 grains but be sure to check a modern manual.

What rifle/caliber are you shooting this in?

I use basically the same load as LAH in an 18" Marlin 1894.

20.5 gn of 2400 behind a 240 gn boolit. Gives approximately 1764 fps and 34,319 psi chamber pressure. It will also let you know that you have shot the rifle.
