41 rem mag loads

I’ve never had a 41 mag and now I do. Ruger super Blackhawk, I’m looking for loads. I realize the 41 rem mag isn’t the most popular kid on the block but a lot of pistol affecionados speak highly of it. I have the brass, the primers, the dies and quite a few pistol powders on hand but I’m hoping to get some input here. Bullets on hand are Hornady and Sierra 210s. If you have some info to share please do. Thanks!

It depends on what you want to do. High power loads use H110/296, IMR4227 or 2400. Mid range I like Unique and Hs6. Low power I like Titegroup and Be-86. Of these only H110/296 are powder you don't want to reduce the charge amount. I mostly shoot my own cast bullets 180 WC and 220 SWC with Titegroup around 4.5 - 6.0grs for easy target shooting. For me I like 14-16grs of 2400 if I want more Recoil. Of course start low and work up to where you want to be. $0.02

My model 57 loads are:

210 grain jhp, using 19.2 grains of 2400. Gives me 1390 fps.

Or

210 grain jhp, using 13 grains of power pistol. Gives me over 1400 fps.

I like Universal Clays and N-110. UC for plinking ammo and N-110 for full power ammo.

Sierra used to make a 220 gn bullet for Silhouette that was an absolute hammer in my Freedom Arms pistol. If you can find them, grab them. If not, the XTP is almost as accurate and not too expensive.

If you are loading upper end stuff it is hard to beat 296 / H110 -always use mag primers and do not load down. Make sure you have a really good roll crimp.

If you want to load a bit more over a range I would use 2400 and mag primers.

I have also had good success with V110 (This is a stick powder) and 4227

I loaded a variety of loads. Hioefully the pistol delivers in the next couple of days And I can get after it.

Loaded some 296 & 210 HP - Sierra’s

2400 & 180 grain Barnes

110 & 210 XTPs.

All of the above are a loaded with starting listed loads. I have several manuals to pull from plus the above info to compare. I’m waiting for more brass to load some bunny fart loads, I’ll use unique for those. I want to try some moderate loads with Hs6 too. I’ve had a crash course on the 41 mag, seems like it has a loyal fan base and deserves more attention than it gets. Thanks again for the input.

Max load .... 296 / h110
Mid load..... 8 gr Unique w/ 210-220. One of Waters accuracy loads.
I did load some 210/unique today. 8.5 grains, it’s load my Dad has always liked, pretty close to your posted load above. 210 XTP

Probably the largest percentage of handgun I shoot is with a 44 magnum 629. I thought recently about getiing a 41. Like you I have all the stuff except the gun. But i looked at that 41 brass recently and realized just how close in size it is to 44 brass and i thought— no way Im going to even try to keep the two separate. it would only take one little oops to cause a big problem. 44 mag on its on will do all i want and need at this age. (67). Good luck with that ruger- be safe and have a good time.

Thats a good point. As I’ve gotten older I take more precautions not to have things like that happen or to cut down on the chance that it would anyways. The only other big cartridge revolvers I have are 45colts, Including a Blackhawk hunter, the rest are Gen I Vaqueros. I was thinking about getting a 44 mag actually in the black hunter, then I would have a neat set - 22/22mag, 41 mag, 44 mag and 45 Colt but what you say makes sense. I have a few ARs in 5.56 and 300BO and I got to extreme measures to makes sure a 300 blackout doesn’t end up in a 5.56 AR, my biggest concern is kids visiting or friends who don’t understand how bad that would be. Good food for thought.
