40X stock?

Does anyone know if an old(50's) 40x rimfire stock will fit a newer 700 ADL centerfire action? Or how much would be involved to convert it?

Thanks, John.

You need the 40-xb stock , the early 40x is the rem 722 style with the straight bolt slot and the lower safety , the 40-xb had the rem 700 sweeping bolt slot and the standard 700 safety .
I dont know if they had the 700 style 40xb that was set up with the standard (not heavy ) barrel because the standard 40x stock barrel channel is perfect for the rem 700 varmint barrel

The 40X rimfire stock that I have for sale will accept a new model 700 action just fine. The one I have is for a single shot 40X.

Trying to use an existing thread here... I have a late 60s 40x repeater, 6mm rem. .875+ muzzle, 26, (appears stainless )barrel.
1. what mcmillan stock would most closely match the original wood stock?
2. for informal shooting off a rest what McMillan stocks do you guys think would be a good option?

The HS Precision varmint is the closest thing I have seen to the 40x.

In the McMillan lineup the one that comes closest to the factory 40X stock of the mid 50s thru 1970 is the “Win Marksman”. While modeled after the Winchester Model 70 stock, it has the same general layout...

However, there are better profiles. Sice you’re after casual rest shooting, I’d go for a “Heavy Benchrest” or a “Heavy Hunter Class”. Classic looks, modern technology. The heavier stock is to help absorb the recoil of 5he 6mmRem.
