40x stock buttplate angle

I know it's probably a dumb question but I've always wondered, why does the 40x buttplate angle so that it comes in at the toe?

God only knows. I changed the angle on mine to almost straight and it fits me better that way.

I believe it was designed that way to give a shorter effective length of pull for standing since you put the stock higher in your shoulder for standing than for sitting and prone. I never liked the design myself.

I am no expert, but I have found that it affects recoil. Longer at the toe will recoil down, longer at the top recoil up, flat recoil straight back. that is just my opinion. I could be wrong. ???
