40X Repeater

Looks more like I wanted now, with a good coat of McMillan tan CeraKote. Bedded it into the B&C #2095 stock first, also ran a replacement reamer into the chamber, which cut only a bit of the lands in the leade as far as I could tell while examining it with my Hawkeye borescope. Now if the wind would just die down & stay down for a couple of days, maybe I could get some shooting in with it to see if the replacement reamer & bedding have helped accuracy at all.

That looks really good. I like the color.

Let us know how it shoots.

I really like the looks of the Manners Elite stocks in molded in GAP camo - carbon fiber looks good in the black areas. That's the combination of the surplus Manners I bought for my Stiller 2500XR repeater. I did that one in graphite black, since the Stiller action was nitrided, and I didn't want to blast on that finish. I've got somewhere around 1000rds through the Stiller, and it's done nothing but get slicker with every box of ammo I run through it. Even though I went as light as I could with CeraKote & still get coverage on the 40X bolt, it's still significantly stiffer to operate than the Stiller. Been shooting the dickens out of it to try to get it worn-in, and am seeing some improvement, but seriously doubt it'll ever be as slick as the Stiller.

However, the bedding job didn't hurt accuracy any, nor did running the replacement chamber reamer into the bbl. The more I shoot it, the better the bbl seems to be doing - time to get some SK Rifle Match & Lapua Center-X out and see if I've got any lots of either that the Benchmark bbl likes better than all the other stuff I've been feeding it. Will post some pics of groups soon as I find some ammo that brings out the best in the 40X. It was shooting good enough this evening to convince me to pull the Bushnell scope & put an Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 in its place.

Johnathan did my 40X as well. It's far and away my favorite rifle. Hoser and I shot it at 100 right after I got it back, and it laid down a 1/4" group with its favorite lot of Eley Black.

Just scored another 40X for Jonathan to convert. This will make number three for me. I'm going to have to make to Hosers match one of these days. So far, Most of my shooting with these is positional training off my deck out to 60+ yards. I did shoot one of them out to 330-yards, surprisingly held vertical quite well at that distance using Wolf Match Target, but the wind was really pushing the bullets around left and right.

And the 40X mafia grows...

I think the main reason you have not made it out is that you are afraid my niece will beat you with my SBR 40X. After all everyone knows short barrels are not accurate.

It is real tempting to keep buying more of them. But I had to draw a line at four.

got this yesterday, heading to the range

Hoser - Got a Lilja titebore bbl finished & installed on the 40XB, and have fired a few rounds through it, though not enough to say for sure how it'll shoot at 100yds & beyond. Am also working on fitting & chambering another Krieger for this same action with the intent of testing them against each other before sending the bbl'd action to Jonathan for the repeater conversion. Of course, am hoping to learn more about chambering 22rf barrels in the process...lol This rimfire stuff is extremely addictive - next thing I need to do is order more Lapua Center-X sample lots for these two bbls.

Flatlander,
Rimfire rifles are very different in which ammo they shoot well. I have owned enough to doubt that two different barrels will shoot the same ammo equally as well. You may have to try several different brands and types to find out what each barrel shoots best.

For sure, SheepDog - will be testing some SK Rifle Match along with the Center-X. Whether I go to the time, trouble, & expense of testing anything else will depend on how well those two brands/grades shoot.
