What barrel blank would match the contour of a 40x barrel? 27" barrel 300 Win. mag. from the 60's.

Be careful here...there were two different tapers on the 40X...depends on vintage. Add to that most barrel makers have their own numbers for tapers. In other words a #7 from one company may not be a #7 from another. If you have the barrel, take it or ship it and ask to match it. Otherwise, call the barrel maker.
The two tapers were H-1 and H-2.
H-2 was a medium weight barrel.
The H-1 is (and has always been) the standard centerfire heavy barrel - it is 0.9" at the muzzle and 1.25" at the action - and a straight taper with no "straight" section over the chamber.
