40X bolt stop

Is the bolt stop for the 40X rimfire the same as for the centerfire ? Just got a CMP 40X rimfire and have all parts but a bolt stop , pin, and spring.

40X & 40XR bolt stops are different.

You'll have to purchase a Model Seven bolt stop, machine it & install the coil spring & pin.

40XR bolt stops are current 40XB/700 style w/ torsion spring.

You can grind back the stop section of a 700 bolt stop and it will function just fine. The stop section of the 700 part is not as tall as the rimfire part but there is still enough area for it to work fine.

Took a look at a second 40x rimfire and find a second type of stop. The early specimen uses a coil type spring and the later one uses the 700 style with a torsion type spring( center coil, short arm, long arm.)

As stated previously!!
Let's try this one more time-

40X & 40XR bolt stops are different.

40X(722 style bolt handle)
You'll have to purchase a Model Seven bolt stop, machine it & install the coil spring & pin.

40XR(700 style bolt handle)
40XR bolt stops are current 40XB/700 style w/ torsion spring.

Knowing which action that you have is the first step.

Thousands pardons Dan.
I am sitting here looking at two 40x rimfire rifles , one a 1969 from Indiana University Shooting Sports Team, one a 1958 USMC. Both are 40x. I am a student looking to learn from more experienced and knowlegable people. I am confused somewhat. Both stamped Remington 40x. What is different between 40x and 40xr??

To simplify from my first post I added differences in parenthesis in the second post.

40X/721/722/600/660/XP-100/XP-100R/ XR-100/Seven
Bolt stops are individually pinned(3rd hole) to action & use a coil spring.

40XR/40XB/700
Bolt stops pivot from aft trigger group pin & use a torsion spring.
