4064

I also have returned to 4064, my go to powder from the early 70"s. Got on the Varget bandwagon and am now regretting it. Thankfully I have plenty of notes and load ladders for the .308 and 22-250 to refer to.

I have several pounds, I’ve been wanting to try some in my 6 bra.

Came across 8lb of 4064. Going to change/switch from Varget (.308) to 4064. 175 gr Seirra hpbt. Just going to use it for 300-600 yards. You guys had any luck with it. I heard before Varget it was the cats butt. I can see that. It's right above Varget on the burn chart.

50 years ago I shot high power x the course. Most shooters used 4895 for 168 grain bullets and 4064 for 190 for bullets for the 600 yard targets. Hope this helps. Tom

Frankly, and ymmv, but IME, if varget works in it, IMR4064 will work better...but it doesn't meter well and is a little more temp sensitive. It's one of my all time favorite powders for accuracy though, where it's applicable. I do wish they'd try to formulate a short cut version and see how it goes over. Temp sensitivity is always a factor but tuners have helped mitigate that aspect and IME, 4064 was never really bad in that regard. Varget was just one of or maybe the first of the "new" temp insensitive powders when it came out, was well marketed and works well in a wide range of chamberings. It's a good powder but I've never been a varget fanboy.
