4064

Came across 8lb of 4064. Going to change/switch from Varget (.308) to 4064. 175 gr Seirra hpbt. Just going to use it for 300-600 yards. You guys had any luck with it. I heard before Varget it was the cats butt. I can see that. It's right above Varget on the burn chart.

Assuming you are talking about IMR4064. It's my favorite powder for my M1A behind a 168 grain SMK. M1A shooters like it. No experience with Varget. Too much drama about it being temperature sensitive. This may or may not be true but IMR4064 is working out great for me.

It's one of two powders that I prefer in 308Win, the other is CFE-223.

IMR 4064 is an outstanding powder for the 308. I used it for years and could detect no difference in accuracy from Varget. However, I used in with 150 and 165 grain bullets.

Also, Sierra lists this powder for their accuracy load for the bullet you posted. (Ref: Sierra Manual 50th Edition)

Not a .308 but my 25.06 loves IMR 4064 with a 75 gr. Vmax.

I've had good luck with IMR 4064 in lighter bullets for my 260 Remington. I was using SMK 107s and 123s. (As you know, the .308 is the parent case for the 260 Rem.) When I moved up to 136 gr Scenars, I switched to a slower powder - H4831sc.

Good powder. It was my go to powder for the 308 before Varget. I have a bunch of it stashed away for……..who knows…..

41.5grs of it at whatever seating depth your rifle prefers will be the easy button with that powder. My Savage loved IMR4064 better than anything else.

IMR 4064 is all i use in my 308, berger 175 vld bullets with great success. I just dont shoot it much anymore. That powder has not been around much lately

IMR-4064 has been one of the best 308win powder for many decades.
Play around with the charge weight and you'll find exceptional accuracy.

IMR-4064 is the "Franks Hot Sauce" of rifle powders. You can put
that sh!t in everything.......

For what it's worth. I was getting better velocities with the AA-4064.
and it shot as good.

43-44 grains behind the 175 SMK is a good starting point in 308. I now prefer IMR 4895 because I got a little bit more velocity for the same pressure but 4064 works great.

Have to agree on 4064. One of my main powders for CMP loads in both 556, 308 & 3006. I stocked up on this powder since it has so many possibilities.

IMR4064 seems to work very well in most cartridges utilizing the .308-sized case, even .243 with much lighter bullets.
