400 dollars for a custom resize die ?

Has anyone ever spent 400 dollars on a custom resize die for a wildcat . It is a three part type with a die body insert and a neck shoulder bushing that is adjustable. It sounds kinda high to me but it has lots of machine work involved I am sure. Thanks ! Westex

wow..Newlon dies can be reamed and made for wildcats..didn't think they were that high..I think there are other options..

Yes, I use Neil Jones dies. ( http://www.neiljones.com/ )
It goes back to that old saying, "you get what you pay for". There is no doubt in my mind that these are the best dies you can get. As you mentioned, COSTLY, but the best. After purchasing my Neil Jones dies and using them for a while I sold my concentricity gauge. Thought I just didn't need it anymore. Then I bought another gauge; just to be sure. :D

I have one of those Warner die's for my .284's and I also use it for a anchor for my jet boat when I'm not reloading.... ;D

Mine makes very straight ammo and, after the initial bite, they make up additonal inserts for other cartidges very quickly for about the same cost other custom dies. I bought mine for my 6Br and now use it for two other cartidges

It never fails to amaze me what we anal handloaders will "need" next. I've got a custom-made neck-sizing/shoulder-bump die from Jim Borden and with what was left between his price and this thing I could take all you guys to McDonald's.

I'll bet not one of us can shoot good enough to ever know if that die is worth it or not. It's just one of those things that are pretty to look at and feeds the appetite. I shoot IBS benchrest at a range that holds three world records in 100-/200-yd. BR, with past, present and future National Champions and the price of this die would fill the reloading chest of most of them.

I wonder how many BR matches have been won with ammo loaded in Redding bushing dies screwed into an el-cheapo RCBS press bolted to side of a wiggly wobbly reloading box and bullets seated in Wilson dies on the tailgate of a pickup?

We keep hoping that the winning target will be because of our superlative equipment, but seldom if ever is that true.

Do Rolexes keep any better time than my Timex?

Excellent points and I wouldn't even try to prove you wrong. The best setup i have for concentricity uses a standard Redding FL sizing die and seats the bullets with a Forster UltraMicrometer seater die. Both absolutely stock out of the box for a standard caliber. But the brass is RWS which I believe but can't prove is probably more responsible for low runout than anything else in that setup.

"Do Rolexes keep any better time than my Timex?"

:D, Well of course they do! Haven't you ever watched how smoothly the second hand sweeps past the 12 o'clock position? Wow! Nice! :D ;)

Ahhh Haaaa!! A fake ROLEX! The real thing does not 'smoothly sweep' across the face of the dial; it has a pulsating sweeping action. Hope you didn't waste toooo much money. ;D
And, unlike the dies, I do wear mine because it looks 'purdy'!! Half the time it doesn't even have the right time. I hate winding that thing!! :-[ ;)

+1 on the Warner. it is not just a question of the cost, it is just such a fine tool. Only time and an investment in annealing gear will tell if the 20-30 reloads comes to pass...

I have a warner die and have used it for some time and if I had to make a choice today I would purchaes again. The die works as good as it looks and runout is a thing of the past, personally I support the warners because I get what I pay for.

I made the remark about a boat anchor because the darn thing is so heavy, not because I don't like it, because I do like it, and it does a super job... I have inserts and neck bushings for other calibers on the way....
