40 x remington

does anybody know a gunsmith that can open a remington 40 x to repeater config and accept factory "bottom metal'' (triggerguard magazine asm.) my 40x is in 7.62 nato and is single shot.

I would have to think that thats one silly idea!!! If you dont like the 40x as it is sell it to someone who can use it and buy what you need. Heck man you can probably sell the 40x for a heck of a down payment on a lawton 7000 repeater and then youll have a custom action. Dont cut the 40x!!!!! Let me know if you want to sell it!! Lee

I second that motion! It would cost you more to convert it than do it properly. You can buy a Pierce or other 700 footprint action for as little as $750 that is probably better than the original Rem. action you have.

I'd go with another Remington custom clone besides Lawton. They've had some problems with Barney passing away, new management, customer service, etc.

There are some other, excellent alternatives for custom clones of Rem 700 actions. Stiller, Borden, Pierce, et al.

As to cutting the 40x, DON'T DO IT. Sell it as is, and buy a repeater. 8)
