40 barrels

remington made 2 barrel conyours for thier regular 40 type rifles.i am not talking about the bench rest ones.the one was a more or less straight taper and finished at 27 inches at i believe .900 inches.my question is does any one know the total dementions of the other barrel is.thiat is to say the back the taper and the muzzel.thank youeven if you can give me a barrel from a manufacter that comes close to it to look at.i got a ction and a 40 stock i wish to build a rifle on and use what i got.

It was somewhat lighter. Both these 2 contours that were originally available were 27 1/4" long in CF rifles to match the overall length of the rimfires (same contours) which were 28" barrels. But the rimfires had another 3/4" into the receiver. The lighter (standard) barrel had a .750 muzzle and the heavy barrel model was about .880 at the muzzle. BTW, the 3rd barrel that was available (I think sometimes in the 70's) was on the 40XC (CF) and the 40XR (RF), both in 3 position deep belly type stocks and these were 24" long and were exactly the same contour as the Remington Varmint at the time. Quite a few shooters put the rimfires in 700 BDL varmint stocks to make weight and shot them in rf silhouette, standard (heavy) class.
