39 gr SBK in a 204, load info

Just bought 1000 pieces of the 39 gr sierra blitzkings for my 204 and am looking some load load info from the members here. I can't find the newest sierra book and there doesn't seem to be much out there, so i turn to you guys. Thanks in advance

Several good powders out there for the 204. RL-10x, IMR 8208 XBR, H322, H4895, IMR 4895, AA2520 just to name a few. Just use the 40 gr load data in place of the 39 SBK. Always start low and work up your loads.

thanks

I just loaded some up last night as I will be doing the same load. Can't offer insight other than what the book says.

39 sbk
I chose to start with 10x powder (I've found some suggesting a pet load around 25.1 grs but I'd work up from less than that).
fed 205 primer

10X for accuracy.
CFE223 has given me great speed with acceptable accuracy.

I use Nosler brass for all my .204 loads and 27.5 Varget is my go-to load for ground squirrels. I get about 3800 fps from the 26 inch barrel of my Savage FCV and I expect 0.5 MOA with my 5 shot groups. If one exceeds 0.75 MOA, I get really really pissed at myself.

In all honesty, the bullet seems to be an equal-opportunity bullet for accuracy. I've had very good luck with;

25.2 Benchmark
28.5 CFE 223
29.8 BL-C(2)
26.8 IMR 4064
26.0 H4895

If you try any of these, start low and work up.

Thanks for the input guys, i have all of the above mentioned powders. Benchmark has seemed to be the powder that my rifles like's, i'm shooting a browning predator hunter with a 24" med-heavy barrel. If the weather cooperates this weekend, i will be giving them a try.

With the 39BK in 4 different .204 Rugers, I have had outstanding accuracy with IMR 8208. By that I am talking consistent .25 to .50" 5 shot groups. Also temperature stable.

I was working on loads for a 20 Practical using 39/40 grain bullets. Just to double check, I listed all the 204 Ruger loads I could find. They are summarized in the table that I developed for my loads for the 20P. They might be useful to you. I list the min to max and the source.

When I had my .204 I had good results with 39 gr. sierra and RL-10x. My .204 is now a 20 Practical with 11 twist and 40 v-max along with RL-10x.
I'm getting more speed and accuracy with my 20 Practical than I did with my .204.:) I own two 20 Practicals now and seems RL-10x works real well in both for me.
I am sure that some of the other powders mentioned would work real well with load work up but for me when I'm getting tiny consistent groups with RL-10x I didn't want to change a thing. ;):)

jepp2, thanks for the info. It all looks good

pacificman,i'm currently having a 20 practical built as parts become available and my 204 will become my wife's

You will love the 20 Practical...I enjoyed my .204 too but what I like a lot about the 20 Practical is that most all standard chamber reamers are with a tight neck and zero free bore. Brass is easy to find. With at least an 11 twist it will stabilize any 40 grainer...With many of the powders mentioned it should be easy to find a load for your 20P. I found that both my 20 Practicals were very easy to find a load for as the the round itself is inherently accurate. ;):)

Out of 5,204 barrels, 2 Savage, 1 krieger,1 Criterion,1 xcaliber, H-322, H-335,Varget,Win 748,Imr 8208, H-4895, are Great powders for 39 B. King. Win-748,H-4895 faster velocity

39gr bking and RL10 is very accurate out of one of my tc venture 204 ruger. I use 25.5 gr of RL10 . Start out lower work up. I use RL10 because I have 7 pds on hand. Plus I can buy it locally for 24.00 a pd.

I have owned 3 204's and a 20 Practical they all shot the 39's .3 or better with either Benchmark of H-4895 with any brass Winchester,Hornady &Remington---7 1/2 or Fed Primers-- Redding Bushing FL dies and inline seater
RL-10 seems to do better with the 32's

There is a fairly long thread at 204ruger.com on bullets and powders.

All honesty it doesn’t seem to be picky as much about powders as it can be bullets.
