38 cal hornady xtp flat point

I saw that hornady lists what they call a flat point 158gr xtp so I picked up a few boxes. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this bullet. It sure still has a hollowpoint but certainly looks like it is designed for slower expansion and more penetration. Hornadys website lists higher velocities by a few hundred feet per second in the specs.
Anyone use them?5D70CF64-6B53-41F7-8B9B-928DFB2F7781.jpeg

Interesting, looks like it's designed to not clog on barrier penetration tests. Tag as I've not used them but 158 gr is a good weight for 38/357

I will be loading them in a 6” 357 at full power to carry while deer hunting I realize that other than fishing off a would deer they probably will never get fired at a deer, but I am excited for my new toy haha

I've loaded the 158 XTP FP's for two of my .357 Magnum carbines (Henry Big Boy X and Marlin 1894C). Great results (on paper, at least).

Theses day I shoot the 125 XTP hollow point in both my 38 special and 357 magnums with modest charges of 231 and they are extremely accurate. I chose this bullet weight primarily for recoil reduction since all my pistol shooting these days is recreational in nature.

I've tried the 158 XTP's in the 357 magnums with 2400 powder and this is a real hammer and very accurate but with significant increase in recoil.

I don't hunt with a pistol anymore but when I did it was before XTP's were produced. I discovered that 140 grain bullet weight (Sierra and Speer) with 2400 worked best for me in the 357 magnums for all around hunting since it provided an effective compromise between velocity and penetration (the latter for deer). However, I only ever shot one deer with a 357 so I'm nowhere near an authority on this caliber for deer hunting but I shot a lot of ground hogs with this bullet weight, and it was extremely effective.

It looks like they just modified the old silhouette design.
