357mag - S&W or Ruger Blackhawk

the 27/28 are N frame, the larger, heavier, - very desirable for shooting, less for carry, the k frame 19 is the lighter version smaller, easier to carry

all shoot well and are very solid, the bbl length is also a factor for carry, 4 vx 6" etc. for just plain shooting the 27 with a 6" has less recoil, muzzle blast and is very accurate, the 19 with a 4" is accurate however has more recoil and muzzle blast,
both are excellent revolvers.

the Blackhawk is a more limited use shooter- however a solid gun.

The model 27 (well, the pre-27 Registered Magnum) was the flagship of the S&W line at one time. More modern 27s are a lot more pedestrian than the pre-war guns, but still a very respectable, very durable revolver. I know of a guy who has fired a documented 150K rounds through his with no significant problems.

The Ruger revolvers are also quite durable, depending on which model you're talking about. The DA Security/Service/Police Six revolvers were comparable to a K- frame S&W. The SA Blackhawk line is built like a tractor. They're easy to work on, and there is a lot of aftermarket support for them. With reasonable care, your grandchildren will be enjoying either gun long after you're gone.

Thanks guys,
I like the S&W better as it fits my hands better and I have a 41 mag that is almost identical.so I probably will get rid of the Ruger.

IMO, you're on the right track. I've fired both and I prefer the S&W for several reasons, not the least of which is the grip. The Ruger "cowboy" grip tends to roll back into the palm of your hand but the S&W has that extra bulk at the top end of the grips that helps to eliminated that movement. I also like the balance of the S&W better.

To me it would come down to one thing...one which nobody mentioned. Do you want a single action or double action revolver?

Howdy !

A great thing about S & W .357Mag revolvers is the choice of frame sizes / grip frame sizes.

With the "N" frames, you can have a rounded or square butt design.

For hands that an "N" is too large for, choices can be the S & W "L" and also "K" frames; which share the same grip frame dimensions.

6, 7, and even 8-shot S & W .357 Mag's. " It's all good " !

With regards,
357Mag
