357 sig, 10mm, 40s&w

One thing that surprised me about the .40 is it's snappy recoil. I have the XD subcompact which is part of the problem. Little gun almost jumped out of my hand. I wanted the .357 sig version but no LGS was able to get me one. After months of trying I settled on the .40. Im pleased with it thus far. While I have never shot the 10mm, my friend at work has fell in love with it. That is his deer hunting caliber. His choice is Kimbers (yes I know they are hit or miss on quality).

It is possible that even a 9mm would have passed through the cat at that distance, leaving us as we have always been, ... having the perfect pistol with you for the current problem your facing. Which is still impossible for me to know in advance, as for the officer at that instant when he confronted the cat at twenty feet a .38 would have done the job.

I have a 9mm, 357 sig, and 40...

Tell me about the 10mm... this round interest me... looks like a 40 with more power. Where does the 10mm come in performance wise, hows it compare to others?

Any reason not to have one? Seems like 180gr bullets in a 10mm would put a whackin on something..

One other thing I'll say. If you decide on the 10mm, run full power loads. I mean you can train with 180 fmj rounds but for carry use if it's woods carry, load with Underwood, Double Tap or Corbon. Don't bother with Hornady, HSM or any of the standard factory stuff. You have a 10mm for a reason. Use all of it. My Underwood 220 hardcast ammo runs around 1320 fps in my G20 with a 6"+ barrel. I also upgraded the mags with Taran 5+ extensions. 20 Rd mags in bear country with 220 hardcast ammo running over 1300 fps is real firepower. Sure the big wheel guns can produce much more power per round but cant compare to the firepower or accuracy when fast aquasition is needed. Carry is easier also as it's lighter and smaller in size. I rarely know I have mine in my chest holster but can draw it very fast and effectively.

Tough to evaluate that instance without knowing exact bullet used and where the animal was hit?
