357 sig, 10mm, 40s&w

Glock 33 357 Sig. I want to play more with this round. I understand 10mm is good for reaching out there with a longer barrel.

I have .40, carried for many years on duty, but next carry will be a 9. There's seems to be people that have hate for the .40 claim it's not effective. If it's not that effective then they wouldn't mind being shot by one, would they?;) Same thing said over and over, it's just a light 10mm. No it's a .40 and a 10 is a 10 but that's one argument amongst many, 9 vs 45 vs 40 vs 10, ad nauseum. What's next? plasma rifle in 40 watt range vs the 30 or 50 watt range?:rolleyes:o_O

I'm going to 9mm only because of capacity. I can shoot the .40 fine and my mindset is shot placement with whatever I carry.

if I shoot ya in your thumb with my 45 you’ll die of shock.

And others and my wildcats.

Back in 2000 I tried every bullet and every powder combination work up to brass failure in 9x19. I learned that I don't want to go all the way to case head failure. Too many 9mm pistol parts to keep replacing. Just work up to the threshold of brass failure, and take further work up as read.

What did I learn?
Except for Norma brass, rimmed brass is stronger than the primer.
6mmBR brass is stronger than the primer.
223 brass is higher pressure than belted magnums.
Belted magnums are higher pressure than Mauser case heads.

The only really bad case heads are; 25acp, 30 carbine, and 10mm.
Their case heads are weak, due to extractor grooves too deep near the primer pockets.

That means more power can be had from 40sw handloads than is possible with 10mm handloads.

To avoid some of the slide hammering the frame, I build triple recoil spring assemblies. The middle spring is a left hand twist.
If there is too much feed ramp intrusion into the chamber, I TIG weld it and recut the chamber for better case support. I like up to the case web or close.

One thing that surprised me about the .40 is it's snappy recoil. I have the XD subcompact which is part of the problem. Little gun almost jumped out of my hand. I wanted the .357 sig version but no LGS was able to get me one. After months of trying I settled on the .40. Im pleased with it thus far. While I have never shot the 10mm, my friend at work has fell in love with it. That is his deer hunting caliber. His choice is Kimbers (yes I know they are hit or miss on quality).

And again we're back at the officer in the train yard. It is possible that even a 9mm would have passed through the cat at that distance, leaving us as we have always been, ... having the perfect pistol with you for the current problem your facing. Which is still impossible for me to know in advance, as for the officer at that instant when he confronted the cat at twenty feet a .38 would have done the job.

I have a 9mm, 357 sig, and 40...

Tell me about the 10mm... this round interest me... looks like a 40 with more power. Where does the 10mm come in performance wise, hows it compare to others?

Any reason not to have one? Seems like 180gr bullets in a 10mm would put a whackin on something..
One other thing I'll say. If you decide on the 10mm, run full power loads. I mean you can train with 180 fmj rounds but for carry use if it's woods carry, load with Underwood, Double Tap or Corbon. Don't bother with Hornady, HSM or any of the standard factory stuff. You have a 10mm for a reason. Use all of it. My Underwood 220 hardcast ammo runs around 1320 fps in my G20 with a 6"+ barrel. I also upgraded the mags with Taran 5+ extensions. 20 Rd mags in bear country with 220 hardcast ammo running over 1300 fps is real firepower. Sure the big wheel guns can produce much more power per round but cant compare to the firepower or accuracy when fast aquasition is needed. Carry is easier also as it's lighter and smaller in size. I rarely know I have mine in my chest holster but can draw it very fast and effectively.

Tough to evaluate that instance without knowing exact bullet used and where the animal was hit?
