357 MAG SHOTSHELLS

Thanks for this tip. Been waiting for the empty capsules but they never have them. I see CCI offers their 38/357 factory shotshells in both #4 and #9 shot. Any experience with different size shot?

I looked again at the link I put in for the Speer Shot Capsules, and I noticed the "currently Unavailable".
I feel a bit stupid recommending something you can't get.
That's probably why people are making their own.

I have a few empties and a few loaded. Since I generally only carry them when I am prairie dog shooting, I will not use them unless I really need to. No playing around or shooting tin cans until they are available again.

as to size of shot, I use whatever I have around for shotshell loading, generally 7 or 8.

I've used a gas check with the flange up, #9 shot, the a gas check flange down with a wax seal. I prefer to use the shot capsules because of the increased volume. Using a 3" S&W or 5 1/2 Ruger the snake is dead from the back of a horse. I didn't shoot many, but none wiggled or crawled away.

I was fortunate enough to find some .38 Speer capsules at an auction recently but haven’t loaded them yet. I’ve got some I loaded probably 20 years ago and they still work but I only have a few left. I wish they would offer them again for those of us that reload.

From Google.......Where I work G-job stands for Government job, but its actual meaning is that you are doing some personal work on company time. So your boss walks into the lab, and ask what you are working on, your answer is "this is a G job".

I have a GREAT aluminum butt plate and hand rail fabricated at Rubbermaid Cortland by a gentleman I was briefly acquainted with. A G job for sure, and I have been grateful to Rubbermaid ever since!

Thanks for this thread as I have desired to make up some snake loads but didn't have the know how.

Why not use a Speer Shotshell capsule?
Link to capsules

I have found that higher velocities and longer barrels tend to spray the pellets out in a wider pattern.
I use the 38 capsules in a S&W 2" chief's special whenever I am in snake territory.
I used the Speer capsules. Now I can’t find them anywhere. Looks like they are discontinued.

Sorry, I see you edited your post to show they are discontinued. Thanks

I still have the Speer capsules as well. 38 ,44 & 45’s. I load #12 TSS in them. Awesome load.
Loaded some 45acp shotshells as well with the 12TSS. Modified a 45 muzzleloader sabot as a shot wad to fit. Inserted a mylar wrap. OSC. Used the RCBS 45 acp shotshell die. Pretty neat load.

TSS sounds like the ticket for these loads. It got me thinking about loading some for my 45 LC. How did you modify the sabot? What do you use to keep the shot in the end?

I modded the sabot for ACP loads.
Trimmed the back a little. Then trimmed to length as needed. I should mention using a blue Harvester ribbed 45/40 sabot.
Flared the case mouth to accept the sabot wad. Inserted it and mylar wrap.
Add shot and OSC. Have tried multiple OSC materials making them myself.
Insert OSC and finish with RCBS die forming round nose crimp. Added sealer.
I’m still tweaking this load.
The pattern at 21 feet was superb!

For 45 LC loads I used the Speer shot capsules I have .
For 45 LC , One could use 444 Marlin brass and cut it to fit. Maybe use a 410 TSS rated wad.
