357 Mag loads for 125g plated bullets needed

I want load up a bunch of ammo for a 6 inch 357.

I've got:

Berrys plated bullets (1250fps max velocity)
Winchester 296
CFE Pistol
Starline 357 mag brass.

Any pet loads?

Your accuracy loads with 296 are at 1700-1800 fps, so change powders.

Look at AA#5 for those plated bullets and better to hold velocity to 950-1000 for best accuracy.

Find some Win and Rem 125g HP, then I can help you out with some very, very accurate loads with the 296 at 1800 fps.

To stay under your stated maximum velocity (1,250 fps) , neither 296 or CFE Pistol will do. Both list starting loads as being in excess of that velocity. 231, 700X, Unique and etc. work much better for your needs.

Hi Neighbor, an old rule of thumb is NEVER use a powder that you can get two charges of in the case and still seat a bullet just for fun. Lots of times you will find positional powder location will show up on the target. Using a powder that has enough bulk to fill at least 3/4 of the case will eliminate that problem and the risk of a double charge which will ruin you're day. If you are a serious target shooter and have a need for the faster burning rate powders that you can double charge you need a serious powder check system on your loader or else visually check each case before seating the bullet. Learned all this about 40 years ago when I wrecked a damn fine Clark hard ball 45acp.

H110 @19.9gr or titegroup @7.5gr both shot the same with the 125gr plated as has been mentioned "watch y'all ass with titegroup" (the powder loads are mine and mine alone - work your way up slowly blah blah etc - you know the drill)

With regard to fast burning powders with which you could throw a double charge into a case, and this has even worked for me with light Bullseye loads in 38 Spl. cases, I group my cases in 50 round handloading case flats and have found that a quick visual inspection of each case looking down at the entire group before I move the 50 round flat to the next stage is more than adequate to detect a double charge. I did this by deliberately double charging 2 or 3 cases and having my wife randomly insert them in the shell flat, then looking for them. If you look (it only takes a few seconds to scan the the whole flat of 50 rounds) a double charge of as little as what is supposed to be a single charge of 2.8 grains of Bullseye sticks out like a sore thump.

Of course this works well for me even when doing 300 or so reloads at a time, as my progressive reloader consists one Rock Chucker and 3 C type Lee presses in a row on my reloading bench....

Buy a pound of Unique and drop in 5.0-6.0 grains (check your book) and you will be set. Save the CFE and 296 for better bullets. Plinking powder for a plinking load.
