350 Legend /Remington 700

I recently read an article about the Legend. According to the author, Winchester may have pulled a major boo boo. Apparently some of the "straight wall" states require a bullet minimum diameter of .357". Turns out the Legend is a 9mm which technically is too small. Yes, just a couple thou but below minimum nonetheless. Check local and state laws before adopting his cartridge.

edit: The .350 Legend is a rebated cartridge and is not merely shortened .223 case.

Yep--Ohio's regs state the minimum diameter of .357".. SAAMI spec claims .357".. Hmmm--this will be interesting...

I'm probably resizing some .357/.358 projectiles for test loads, but, if a GW whips out a set of calipers during deer season, I'll have to claim that they weren't calibrated correctly..lol

[BTW--I'm keeping this SAAMI pic on my phone for that very reason. I remember reading a post on another thread stating that the bore groove diameter as being a legal measurable size, but, don't quote me on that.. ]

Why would you resize them? I say that because the barrel will do it for you without any fuss. Remember if you can size them 0.001 in a hand press it cant take much force. A few hundred pounds is trivial on a scale of 60k psi
Also their is no way the GW is checking bore dimensions, if he checks anything it will be the ammo with calipers.

Talked to ODNR today.. Law Dept. has given the OK for the 350 Legend.. They've gotten thousands of calls, emails, etc..Not sure if/when a statement will be coming out...

As far as resizing .357/.358 bullets, the AR's aren't locking into battery w/ the larger projectile..I know this thread is for Rem bolt's, but I'm reloading for an AR...

Edit---The SAAMI chamber dimension shows the throat at .357" [w/ .002" of tolerance]... A.) - Any machinist knows that you can't slide a .357" pin into a .357" hole.
B.) - Pressure spikes are a shooter's nightmare... Why chance it?

As far as what a game warden could check with calipers? You most certainly can check the muzzle end of the bore w/ a set of calipers. And, I never stated whether a GW was going to check the bore or the ammo. I just stated that according to the SAAMI specs, the bore groove size is within legal limits of Ohio's minimum.

I think if some bullet folks like hornady starts making good hunting bullets these states with straight wall cases it seems to be very accurate even with the factory ammo. Here is a target we shot at 300 yds in a AR platform last Sunday.

I checked Hornady's site yesterday & noticed that they have a new 165gr FTX w/ a diameter of .355"... I'm guessing this is tailored for the Legend...

My Remington 700 ADL 223 converted to 350 Legend feeds fine from the left side of the internal magazine, but hangs up on the right side. Will need some work to get running smoothly.
