.35 remington bullet question

anybody know if i could use some of the heavier .357 handgun bullets in reloading for my .35 rem. i will be shooting them in a marlin lver action.i know the bullet size for the the .35 is .358 but i have seen some .358 and .359 hard cast lead handgun bullets. any info would be appreciated. thanks.
mike.

I've been using 180 grain XTP's in one for years with no problems at all...
Nothing wrong with a good hard cast bullet either......

Proper bullet diameter is always best, but if you can obtain cast bullets that'll keep gas-cutting to a minimum I'd say you ought to be OK. Anything available out there with gas checks?

Biggest problem with .357" bullets would be hot gas escaping at the rifling, probably increasing the build-up of lead in your bore & reduced bullet velocities.

Here's a link to an article mentioning use of cast bullets & things to be aware of up front:

ARMike -

Lyman's cast bullet reload manual lists pistol-wt bullet loads
for use in .35 Rem.

If you might cnnsider casting your own .35 cal bullets.....
NEI makes some great molds , neitools.com ).
There are of course, many other molds out there.

In .35 cal, NEI has one particular design.... a 170gr SWC .....that has a bore-riding nose section.
That is a good mid-heavy wt bullet for either a .357Mag revolver
or for use in your 336 Marlin.

In jacketed and/or plated bullets, Rem's stock 150gr "plated"
.35cal 150 PSP is a superbly accurate bullet.
That's a revolver-wt bullet, but w/ a rifle application in-mind.

All .35 cal 180s I've shot, not in a 336 though ) have shot
just great.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Regards,
357Mag

You can use the Pb bullets without any problem as long as you watch the velocity. The 200 to 215 gr. gas check bullets are nice in a .35 Rem.

Be careful if you load pistol cast bullets and shoot light loads. The shoulder on the 35 Rem is pretty small and easy to set back. Otherwise pistol bullets shoot very well.

Something to keep in mind with Obama and is gun laws/taxs/restrictions/etc. on the horizon - get set up to cast your own bullets and stock up on powder and primers.

Pistol bullets would not feed thru my pump action remington but shot well when single fed. I do not know how they will feed in a Marlin. I would load a dummy one first and see if the OAL will work to feed. I have been using cast bullets for years in a 357 mag rifle and 30-30 with very good results. Good luck.
