I'm pretty fascinated with the 33XC. Debating compiling the components to get it built. I've got short range, mid range, and long range.....but not super long range. Why not finish the puzzle? Yay or nay? Feedback?

How much range do you have and how close? Lots of people get in and find out it is a huge pain to find a range.....or worse yet....nobody around to shoot with because you are the only one so equipped. I am not a big fan of shooting by myself unless I am in the middle of load development.
338ULTRA, 338 EDGE, 338 Lapua, 338 Lapua Improved will get it done past 1500. Add in a few of the bigger 300's. I shoot my edge to a mile without any fancy optics. BUT....my range is 1600 yards long....5 miles from my house. I can go from 50 yards directly to 1600 and anywhere in between. I use a 40 MOA rail and a good scope. Some shoot them competitively to 2500 yards.
To play with the next level I simply bought a 50 MOA rail that fits between my base and my scope. I thouight about doing the same thing.....simply screwing a XC tube on my 1000 yard heavy gun (85 pounds) It has a 2 inch BAT "L" action and I have the Lapua bolt....all I need is a BBL....and a reamer, and dies, and gunsmith, and bullets, and brass, and more 215 MAG primers, and...... you see where I am going.
Now......all that being said....and you are hell bent on going big......then do it right and go directly to a 37 XC. Or....get two BBLS for your setup, and play with both.
There is a few more levels above the XC line, but I am sure you are aware.
Just my .02 at midnight while I wait for the furnace to catch up so I can load ANOTHER 200 rounds. Some times ND sucks...and next week it will most likely be 95 degrees and humid in MO.

How far out are you going to shoot realistically? I shoot my 300 PRC out to 2500 yards on a fairly consistent basis and it does what i need it too! I'd only build a 33XC if i was going to compete in the ELR Light gun class!

I think a guy looking at something that will do the same as a 338 Lapua should step up into the .37XC. You won't gain much besides velocity with the 300 grain bullet going to the 33XC. It helps but bullet weight and BC help much more when dealing with ELR and wind at those extreme ranges. The 37XC will move a much heavier bullet with a much higher BC as fast as the 33XC will push the 300 grain bullets. Unless your just building it to have it because you want it, then that's a different thing all together. If your actually building one to use for "Real" ELR use, I think the 37 is a better option. There are even better one than that but that's where I'd start.
Nope. I guess I don't really get the extreme range game. Lobbing shot after shot until you finally hit something. But, if it is interesting to you go for it.

Lobbing shot after shot until you finally hit something? lol I watched Ryan Cheney make 5 out of 5 hits on a target at 1943 yards with a 33XC at spearpoint in ELR light division.

I agree, that is very impressive. What I was referring to mainly is when they are firing at 4k to 6k yds and it takes 69 shots to hit the barn door target. That I do not get. But if they enjoy it, hey what the heck.
