.338LM 300gr recipes please

As the title says, what are your favorite recipes for the 300gr bullet. Here's my kit:

26" heavy Kreiger 1:10
Lapua brass
300gr SMK's
Retumbo
CCI magnum primers

Because of the cost of doing these tests, I am looking for some insight from fellow shooters to get me started. I am leaning towards starting at 89.3gr because a little Googling shows this as a popular choice. But I am concerned with lower velocities. I know velocity is not the be-all end-all of precision loads. So, upon further research, I have found popular loads at 90.5gr, 91.5gr, and 92.0gr (all Retumbo).

My end goal is a decent load out to a mile and beyond. What say you?

Edit: I'll be doing a soft jam at .005" off the lands.

I just finished doing something similar with my 338 LM surgeon action/kreiger 9.5 barrel (26 inch) using the berger 300gr OTM with 92.0gr H1000 and Federal 215M primers with no pressure signs at 80 degrees F yielding a consistent 0.25 MOA. I debated between Retumbo and H1000 and went with the H1000 for no good reason (have both). I will stick with the above for now and see how this load does over time. I started with 88 gr and worked up to 92.5 gr and found two solid nodes. I know many have found Retumbo to be a great powder with consistent results and no doubt will work for you as well. This is what I found for H1000 should you ever wish to switch powders, something similar may work you too.

good luck and have fun

I've used H1000 and VHT 170 extensively in the 338 Lapua with great results, but the RE 33 is new
great powder i hear for the large magnum cases

RE33 is a great powder for the 300 grain bullets in a Lapua. You will get at least 100 fps more and less pressure. It is also a very accurate powder. It has worked great in every gun we put it in. Matt
Same question. How temperature sensitive is RE 33 compared to H1000 or Retumbo?

Same question. How temperature sensitive is RE 33 compared to H1000 or Retumbo?

I've always found H1000 to be somewhat temp sensitive as opposed to the VHT 170 powder.
i know a few guys that are have told me that RE33 seems to be more stable
Here the temp doesn't change much throughout the year 75 + or - with an average hum.at 68%
Been using Retumbo on my 7STW and it seems to be temp sensitive as well even with a temp change of 10-15 deg. higher.

I realize I would have to work up to that level, but you were able to go to 102.6 grains RL33 in a straight 338 LM without excessive pressure symptoms, correct? What barrel length and velocities were you able to achieve?

Thanks
