Does anyone have experience with wildcats based on the .338 RUM case?
I have brass I'm trying to think of a good use for.
Thanks

Helps us out in the direction you want to head towards?
Hunting
ELR steel
Light weight or bench?

I run 338 edge which is 338/300 RUM

265 or 285 solids at 3000 fps is pretty good at banging steel at 2000+ yards

Little one on the right.

Steel out to 1 mile max, .308 or less
If you have 338 rum cases(that are shorter than the other RUM cases) it would make an interesting 7mm an 300 as the bit less case capacity really isn’t an issue and fit better in magazines with long, high bc bullets.

Both would hammer steel at a mile with authority.

sell the cases buy some real 338 edge cases
a 300 wm will do 1 mile no issue
338 edge is about min for 2000 with consistency
how big is the steel..
instructor told 308 students he would have them hitting past 1000...
just did not mention the size of the target,a 5 ft x ft plate

Most seem to want to move towards the 300 RUM instead of the .338 RUM...

I have the reamer for and have chambered a couple of rifles for the .30-338 RUM. Not any big difference between the .300RUM and the .30-338 RUM. The .338 RUM is only 0.090" shorter than the .300 RUM and just a couple of grains less capacity.

Then since I had the brass I necked it up to .358 in order to use the 340 grain Cutting Edge MTH bullet. I think this bullet deserves more powder capacity so I'm working on that but it is an interesting combination on the .338 RUM case.

Enjoy your search!

Been thinking about a 358 XC myself.

Many years ago, there was a visitor to our public range had some awesome custom hunting rifles. Jarrett 280AI, and 2 wildcats off the 404 Jeffries, a 7mm Raptor and a 30 Raptor. The case was 2.5" long on the Raptors, and he got blistering speed from the 7mm, like 3500 fps with 150 gr Nosler. A gunsmith from GA had done them both. Not long after that Shooting Times was introducing the 338 RUM, and mentioned it's. 090" shorter case, I got on the phone to JGS same day and ordered 2 reamers a 7-338, and a 30-338 RUM. I had Dwight Scott chamber the 7mm first on a trued by him Remington 700 with a fluted 10 twist Krieger. It was an unreal rifle. 3650 fps with an abundant dose of IMR7828. Now I still got both reamers and traded off that rifle, and have ADG brass waiting in the wings. One day it will happen.

Did you ever try heavy bullets in the 7mm version? How do you think it would do with a fast twist and some of the new heavy weight bullets?
