.338 RUM accuracy issues

I've just built a .338 RUM and I'm having some issues with accuracy.I've got 45 rounds sent through and the groups are starting to tighten up but not to what they should be.Its a shillen barrel 1-10 twist and I'm shooting Sierra 250g match king BTHP.If any one has any suggestions feel free to let me know. Thanks Bob in CT.

I had a similar situation with mine. I was trying to get 225 and 250 Accubonds to shoot - tried MagPro, 7828, RL22, RL25, H1000 and could not get anything to group better than 3' @ 200yds. Switched to Barnes TTSX and all of a sudden I was shooting 1'or less @ 200yds. Maybe try a different primer?

You really need the Federal 215M with this caliber, and the Barnes will shoot...
My best groups were with the old 200 grain Speer's... But doubt it would be good for long distances.. Never got the Accubonds to shoot that well at 350 yards, and tried everything I have..

That's interesting that you guys didn't have any luck with the 250 grainers either. I tried the 250 Scenar's, they didn't shoot, tried 300 grain Match Kings,to much recoil damage). I finally got a box of 225 grain Triple Shocks, they're shooting under 3/4 minute. So far I'm using Retumbo and Federal 215 primers.

Although they take up a bunch of case capacity I'm going to try some of the 225 Tipped Triple Shocks.

I do not have the 338Rum but I do have a 338LM and CCI Mag primers combined with H1000 did the trick for me. I have never had much luck with any other primer in a big magnum.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the info its all been help full I think i need to just give it a little more time for break in.today I shot 5 separate groups and noticed they were starting to tighten up,from 1 1/2 at 100 to close to 3/4of an inch.I'm using IMR 4831 with CCI magnum primers.going to play with the seating depths and see if I can tighten the groups up.

Another 15+ year old post resurrected!

Can someone explain to me why this 15yo post has been resurrected? Who knows if walk911 is still shooting one.
Having said that I will add my ooinion on the .338RUM based on experience when I had one. To achieve its potential you need a trued long action with a high quality custom throated 26" barrel to seat the bullets long.
With prioperly developed loads I was able to achieve .338 Lapua results.
My favorite used Rem match prepped cases. F215, Norma MRP for Barnes tts 250 or H1000 forSwift AF 275.
It was less than 3/4 moa with both and a three shot of 3/8 at 200 with the Barnes at 2986 fps. Both were game stoppers and I had a very experienced PH in Africa tell me it was one of the most effective rifles he had ever seen.
For its day it was as good as it gets but newer offerings have pretty much made it obsolete with scarce components.

Obviously a member didn't read the original posting date before writing an answer. It happens, I've caught myself answering old posts.

With all the new members, revitalizing older threads and ideas can be beneficial.
