338 MAG Brake on a 300 Win Mag?

I have a 300 Win Mag rifle and I found a used Brake for a 338 Mag for a good price that will fit the threads on my rifle. My question is will the larger I.D. be detrimental to reducing recoil? I know that there's only about .040 in. difference. I'm looking for your opinions before I buy the brake. Thanks in advance.

This a basic bell shaped curve where the big part in the middle works fine. The more you open the hole, the less efficient it is. Conversely, a smaller hole does not improve efficiency and can be detrimental to accuracy.

Originally the accepted diameter was 0.015" per side larger (+0.030" diameter). Since then it is generally accepted to be 0.020" per side (+0.040" diameter). Depending on who decided, the .338 brake could be 0.378" or 40 thousandths larger in diameter. 378-308= 70 or 0.070" larger in diameter for a .30 cal. (0.035" larger per side).

Lot of people using a larger brake and reporting very little reduction in brake effectiveness.

Just out of curiosity, is this backed up by testing or is it anecdotal?

When this was tested many years ago, the difference was noted not just guessed at.

Thanks!

I certainly didn't test it. I don't use brakes. But I believe there has been some testing of late that supports this.
