338 lapua loads??

Whats your 338 lapua load... looking for loads for 300 gr bullets with either H1000 or Retumbo.... just getting ideas where to play at...

Like Dan says.
My 98B likes 92.0/H1000. If you call up .338Lapua on U tube, you will see that lots of other guns like that. Start low and workup. If you can get some Re33, try that.
HTH

When I used H1000 and Retumbo in my Improved I pressured up before I got what I wanted. They are both good powders for the Lapua case. Accuracy was real good. But when I went to Reloader 33 the velocity went up 150 feet and the accuracy for 5 shot groups at 1000 got way better. Matt

Matt what kind of accuracy were you seeing @ 500 & 1K yds before and after with those loads. Just wondering if I could do better switching to RL-33 than H-1000 now. I'm really impressed with the load I have now. I shoot the 300 Smk with 90.8 H-1000 in a 30" Krieger.

My 338 Lapua IMP is an all out custom gun. It is in an aluminum stock running on 6 inch rails up front and in 2 inch in back. It is a 36 inch 1.450 Krieger glued in a block and weighs 45 pounds. I built it for long range acuuracy and to hunt with. The loads I shot at 1000 with Retumbo and H1000 would shoot in the 7 to 8 inch range with 5 shots. The RE 33 loads shot in the 4 to 5 inch range. This was with both Berger 300 and Sierra 300. I choose the Berger because they open up better on game and were slightly more accurate. The thing I liked the most was I could run 150 plus faster which really helps when reaching out there. We also tried this in a straight Lapua and a 338 Ultra Improved and the results were almost identical. It gave more velocity and better groups. We did all the testing at Williamsport off the concrete benches and with our match rests. I also hunted with my buddy and he killed two bucks with my gun. He said the 300 Sierra in his 338-378 never killed like the Berger 300 did. He tested the RE33 and the Berger in his gun and said he got as much velocity with less pressure over 50 BMG. He said the Reloader 33 gave slightly better accuracy but some of it might have been due to switching to the Berger. The 338 Ultra Improved is almost the same as a 338 Edge. The 300 Berger went 3000 with the edge and it shot 5 inch groups at 1000. It just seemed to work good in all the guns we put it in. The H1000 load went 2920 and was max. The Re33 load went 3070 and showed no pressure. Matt

My gun shot the Retumbo and H1000 real good. The accuracy wasn't terrible. It is just that the Reloader 33 shot better and the velocities were a lot more with less pressure. It so far has worked good in every gun we tried it in. Which is only 5 but all five did better. The go to powders for the Lapua has been pretty much been Retumbo and H1000. I think that the Re33 will change that. I also tried US869 and got good velocity but when it got cold out the velocities went down. It was also very dirty. Matt

im going to have to find some 33 then to try... i would like to have the extra velocity too. Im running a 29 inch barrel... try to get all i can out of it... i had this retumbo and h1000 before the 33 came out... i loades some hot rounds with retumbo, i gotta watch for pressure signs when i start shooting em... went up to 91.1 gr... i think it will be ok though... it fills to about the base of the sholder on the brass...
