ducks-and-bucks

I'm getting things together to build a .338 Lapua, here's what I am thinking... If anyone has any input or suggestions please give me feedback!!! It will be very much appreciated!!

I want a .338 Lapua that I can take out to 1500 yards. Bench rifle/bipod on the ground. I will be using it for hunting and target, but I do not plan to pack it around hiking. It will be very much a stationary set up.

A defiance machine rebel action, repeater, with a detachable mag, hybrid ejection port, target rear tang, tactical bolt knob, flat bolt nose, 30 MOA canted picatiny rail, benchmark 30 inch heavy bull barrel, muscle break 4 port muzzle break, and the stock I haven't totally decided on... Need opinions for this kinda set up, and need opinions of rifling and twist rate.... I want to shoot a heavy, yet tac driving load that patterns 1500 yards or less like a champ! I know velocity isn't everything, but I'd like to have a max load...

the more MOA you put in the base the less you need in the scope for ELR. If it does not matter that you have a 100 yard zero, then you may want to consider 35 or 40 MOA on the base.

With my 338 edge I can get to 1350 with 30 moa rail. Make sure your stock has an adjustable cheekpiece because you'll stretch your neck trying to find your crosshairs

For the barrel, get a 9.5 or 9.3 twist, these will stabilize any 300 grain bullet currently made. The 30 moa picatinny will should work with most scopes that have 100+ moa elevation available and get you out to 1500>1600 yards .Just because a scope is listed as having 100 ( or ?? ) MOA elevation does not necessarily mean you will have that number available . Once the scope is zeroed at a known distance you may end up with only 70 or so moa left .

1-9.7 or as mentioned, a 1-9.5 twist will handle everything you need. I would go with a 28" barrel in an MU contour with a Badger FTE break. I use a 20 MOA cant base with a NF 5.5-22 NXS and reach 1 mile without an issue (more than enough elevation).

IMHO - Don't bother with the 250 grains bullets...stick with the 300 grainers.

Good Luck
