338 Lapua based wildcats

I wondering if there are any advertised 338 Lapua based wildcats out there so I would not have to do to much in the way of a custom reamer. I heard mention of the 30 Nawakwa, but cant find any info. I have not decided wether I will go 308 or 338. Id like to go with a shortened improved version.

There is a Gunsmith named Kirby Allen over on Longrange Hunting who has designed several wildcats based on the 338 Lapua.

If your looking at a shortened version give Kevin Rahill a call at, http://www.stockadegunstocks.com/ and ask him about the 30 cal Rahill Rocket.

I have a 30-338 Lapua that is 2.350" long and the case is slightly tapered. The capacity is between a 300WM and a 300 Weatherby. PTG made the reamers for the chambering and sizing die and I have a set of Neil Jones dies for it. I get very low ES from the cartridge. In a match at Byers, Colo for HG it shot 2.5" of verticle. I made the cases from a set of bushings that Neil Jones provided and used a Hardinge lathe to inside neck ream with a micro-boring bar. The cartridge is a great concept but the cases are a lot of work. The neck sizing bushings hold the case in the collet of the lathe during boring. just for fun we inserted a pin guage and got a TIR of 0.00050".

Tom Sarver shot a record group in HG with a similar case design. My velocities are about 3100FPS with a 200 GTB bullet in a 36" barrel. Also the ES's are low. During load development at 300 meters I was performing a ladder test after I established a seating depth of 0.012" off the lands. The rifle was feed powder charges that were .3gr apart and at that range four shots went into a hole and it measured about .360".

My son shot it at a 1K yard BR match in Tuscon, AZ. It was his first match ever and he scored a 96.

This gun has been the easiest to load develop of any gun I have had to shoot. I tried another one using the same platform in 7-338 Lapua but the verdict is not in on that one.

Just for reference, Skip Talbot was probably the first one to shoot that cartridge in competition and did vey well with it setting some records.
