338 BR

Any one here ever mess with a 6BR case necked up to 338. I am seriously thinking about getting a suppressor for my EDGE. I would also set up the 300 WBY tube and my 6-47L...all to shoot the same suppressor.

My thought was to find a fast twist 338 tube for my 6-47l and try find some subsonic loads for it.

Just wondering if it has ever been done.


I know that "The Hide" is probably a better place to look, but I "do not belong" over there....yet.

Always wanted to. I had a few dummy rounds loaded up and thought about making a reamer.
My only application was to be hunting, and with the 200 class 308 bullets out there, I saw no need to get any heavier. You add the issue of trying to get the BR cases to feed in a repeater, and I was back to just shooting the 300 Blackout.

Brass is cheaper (used to be free range pick up 223 brass).
Bullets are cheaper.
And load data is plentiful.

I have one on a Remington 700 action with PTG bottom mag. feeds just fine. In order to shoot the 300 grain bullet subsonic I used a 1-7 twist barrel. 7BR brass is easier to neck up, but harder to fine. With 6 BR brass you get donuts and have to neck turn.

You're edge barrel probably isn't fast enough but have you tried trail boss in it?

You can NEVER get subsonic with a case the size of an EDGE!! At least, I wouldn't want to try it.

I am just trying to plan ahead. I'm sure that with the current administration in office it is going to take a year to get my permit!!! I just thought that a 338 br would be kinda cool. I want to try at least one subsonic setup.

Yeah I didn't know for sure. Trail boss can get you down pretty slow in a lot of different cases. It was a thought.

My first can (Bush administration) took slightly less than 90 days from the day I struck the deal with the dealer (who then mails you a package with his part filled out that you must fill out, then get fingerprinted and background checked and the endorsement signed by the senior law enforcement in your county, which you then send to BATFE and wait). The last one, 3 years into the Obama regime, took 5 months and 19 days from the time I mailed the package with the senior LEO's endorsement and fingerprint cards to BATFE. 6 months, +/- a bit, is certainly not unusual now.

Try to contact Spook on this forum, I believe he has the reamer and can do the job for you. I know because I bought a 338 br reamer from ptg on sale and he bought he other one that was available.

Try to contact Spook on this forum, I believe he has the reamer and can do the job for you. I know because I bought a 338 br reamer from ptg on sale and he bought he other one that was available.
