I am getting a Accumark 338-378 weatheby and I don't know where to start with load development. I am pretty sure I wanna shoot the nosler 300 grain Accubonds with the .720 B.C. I have a couple boxes. Does anyone have any load suggestions I am open to different bullets and powder just wanna see what everyone thinks is a good place to start. Looking for a 1500 yard capable white tail rifle so that's why I was thinking 300 grainers.

No response yet for ya?
I had one of these monsters for a short time. My gunsmith built it for himself then decided that I HAD TO HAVE IT. I kept saying no and then one day he sent it with me to try.
Mine liked the 250gr Balistic tips that I believe are no longer manufactured? Its been an awful long time so please forgive me if Im incorrect.

Mine wasnt a factory rifle in any sense of the word but my best powders where R25 and Retumbo which was brand new at the time. My suggestions to You is look in the Nosler reloading manual and the sierra manual and go fromthere. Loading this pig was like filling a small sewer pipe with stick powder and was quite an event when it went off. It created some real bad shooting habits and I gave up on it since I had ( Have) a 7mm REm Mag that did everything the 338 would do.

PS I had some hang fires with not using Magnum Primers so keep that in mind.

Dragman, I have some 250 grain load data, I don't have it with me as I am at work and don't want to publish it anyways but give me a p.m so I don't forget and I will p.m you back some data, I will say mine liked RL-22 the best, it would shoot any powder bullet combo good but it shot rl-22 great ;)

thanks for the info. I can't wait to see what happens when I load this beast up and pull the trigger.

I don't own a .338-378 personally, but my brother and his acquintances play with these alot and .338 lapuas. The standard go to loads for both calibers has been 300 bergers, federal 215 primers , and H1000. May not get the last 75fps like retumbo but overall just more consistent. Accuracy has been always good with that combo. Braked or not .338-378"s take some practice to get used to though.

gun really doesn't recoil bad for the shooter. I wouldn't wanna be the person on the next bench but while shooting it, it isn't any worse than a 300 win unbroke.
