Any one shooting a 338-06
Sounds good just got mine Remington 700bdl unfired not sure brand of barrel but it shoots Good getting 1in groups with Hornady 225 bullets using 35 whelen brass.Had one a few years ago, McGowan barrel on a Savage. It was accurate, and not bad recoil. Dropped a moose at 250yd doing severe internal damage. Still kicking myself for selling that barrel.
What brass are you using. Most people seem to use 3006 but I am using 35 whelen just run it through the 338 sizer and loadI've been shooting mine since 1988; great elk medicine!
Mine is on my boyhood pre-'64 Winchester M70, rebarreled by Donnelley also to .338-06 Improved. It gets a bit over 2,800 fps easily with the Nosler 210gr Partition, and goes end-to-end through bulls if needed (it did once).
Articles in Handloader convinced me long ago that this was a premiere overlooked big game caliber. Steve Timm did a great one in that mag that would convince anyone, ditto for one by Ken Waters.

They seem to be great rifles one of my sun's has one that came from the man I got mine from. I worked up a load with 210 Barnes and shoots great got elk with it this season. Used Barnes because that is all the man had ever used in it and only used sweet shooters to clean it.I've always used virgin/unfired R-P 30-06 brass for it, as I had a box of 500 in the shop when my rifle was complete. No issues of any kind so far, best 100 yard groups run just under 1/2" with the Nosler 210gr Partiton. Far more accurate than a medium bore has the right to be.![]()
I like the 35whelen brass so I don't get it mixed up with my 06 brass.I built one on a Rem 700 with a 24" Douglas barrel and load mostly Barnes TSX. Sold my 338 Win mag soon after. I neck up '06 military brass, mostly because I have several thousand rounds of the stuff to feed an 03-A3 and a Garand.
I am. 200gr Nosler and Reloader 15.Any one shooting a 338-06
Same setup as me pretty much. Those 160 TTSX sure put the hurt on big game!338-06 on a Savage Action, Shilen 26" barrel. Shoots sub MOA out to 600 yards with Hornady 225 bullets. I just started developing a load for Barnes 160 grain TTSX. They are grouping 1" at 200 yards.
All my brass is Winchester 30-06.
