32 v-max vs 40 v-max

Looking for personal experience with these 2 bullets in 20 cal on coyotes. Not interested in any other bullet since these are the 2 i have to work with. Will be with a 20 practical. My opinion would be 40 would have the advantage for knock down but ive been wrong before. I shot it for the first time yesterday and will still be playing with loads with both bullets to see whats better on paper. But if one is better than the other in performance ill spend more time on that bullet. Thanks for inputs.

What’s knock down?
Knock it down dead in its tracks on a good shot placement with out running off with a flesh wound. Enough internal damage to get the job done. Not wanting to blow a big hole in any side of it eather.

What is the twist of your barrel? A lot of 1-12 twist barrels will not stabilize the 40 grain bullets is why I'm asking.

I've shot a bunch with both. I'd definitely go with the 40. The 40's work pretty darned good. I recall shooting a coyote pup about 4 times with the 32's (admittedly badly placed shots - but all solid body hits). The 32's are great for squirrels and smaller critters though - and I use them a lot.

Also, though it's not much of one, the 40 Vmax is a boat tail versus the 32 is a flat base bullet which makes the 40's easier to work with.

Flad base and wind drift dont bother me. Most shots are 50-100 yards. More concerned about performance on the animal

At that distance not a concern with either, I would use the one that is the most accurate.
I ran the numbers on JBM between the 32 at 3750 and 40 at 3600fps 300 yards in a 10mph wind the 32 was 12" drift and 40 was 9.2 you better be good at wind calls to be able to shoot that difference.

40 HP's over the Vmax 40's

For me, the HP's don't splash on the shoulder area as the Vmax do. Smaller hole going in and comes out a larger hole, if it comes out.

Oh i will be getting some bergers once they are arround. I contacted them and supposed to be made 1st quarter in 24

My buddy wanted to try the Speer 39 TNT on coyote, his rifle is 204 R. Hoping I'm with when he shoots a couple. If they behave at 204R velocity, they should be fine at practical/tactical velocity.

I would say 40s for yotes. I have a friend whose shot many this fall using 32s no problem with his 204, I ve shot a couple with them amd they worked as well but I shoot the 40 in my 20p around 3650 and they work extremely well on yotes. We get some thicker hides and never a problem with splashes. Granted not shooting under 100 yards as youve stated but perform well at 300 and beyond as I'm sure under 100 as well. Got 2 back to back days 1 305 and 1 330 didn't move after getting hit. I don't shoot to bust shoulders either. Behind the shoulder and knocks them down pretty well.
