Looking for Yea or Nea on the 168 gr Berger Classic hunting bullet? Deer sized game! Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated also. Accuracy is also a must. Thanks for your input.

That should be a good shooting bullet. Maybe close range out of a 7 STW or magnum might get messy. I have used a lot of Berger hunting VLD's and they kill real good and are accurate. I have not used that one but have used Berger hunting VLD's and the have been great bullets. Matt

it is a great bullet to use when you have a short magazine. I have over 20 rifles and reload for about 10 more. if they wont shoot bergers they go bye bye. I load 185 classic in 300 weatherby and it holds half minute out to 1000 yds!

Out of what cartridge?

Hope he got something in 2014. When he started the thread. LOL. It’s funny, you hear it’s the best bullet I have ever shot, and then, never again, penciled through both shoulders and no expansion. I say try them and find out for yourself. Too many different opinions. Kinda like reviews on vendors.

I loaded the 185's for my 308 this year since I couldn't find the 168's. They shot exceptionally well at the range. By far the most accurate load I've found for that rifle. The perfect storm of bad weather and a crazy work schedule kept me out of the deer woods this season.. so TBD on effectiveness.

The 140 gr., Berger Classic Hunters, are Designed to work at, Magazine Length, 1-10 Twists and they, "Rock" out of, my .270 WSM Tikka at, almost 3,200 FPS and,..
Kill Elk like,.. "the Hammer of, Thor" ,.. at,.. REASONABLE, Ranges !

The 140 gr. .270 cal. Classic Hunt's, launched @ 3,185 FPS, are still going OVER, 2,000 FPS at, 800 Yds ( 6,000 Ft. Elev ) and am getting, Sub. 3/4 MOA at, 200 yds.
My son and I have shot, 3.5 to 5 Inch, 700 yd. groups out of, my .270 WSM Tikka.

I've used that 30 cal 168 out of one my 30-06s. Using H4350, velocity was just under 2900 fps.
Results on the deer that I shot with it were predictable - DRT.
Although I can't imagine hitting a deer with almost hunting bullet out of an '06 and it not killing it, assuming good shot placement.

I killed a whitetail doe last friday at 475 yards and she fell as fast as gravity could pull her. That one made an even dozen deer that I've killed with that bullet in my 308,and none of them took a step. They're vicious on deer.I haven't had anything to complain about as far as those bullets go.Longest shot was 590 yards, closest one was 100 yards. They're also very accurate.I loaded some up for my Win Mag but didn't get to try them in it.As has already been mentioned, they are very destructive, and I would imagine a magnum would make quite a mess of a deer.
