30br

I have a couple of questions about the 30br. I just bought a switch barrel rifle with 3 barrels and one of the barrels is a 30br.

So my questions are:

Where can I get relative inexpensive dies? I am a long range guy and won't be shooting matches with this barrel probably just prairie dogs.

What are the powders to use? I am currently looking for h4198.

Thank you

Get the Harrell's sizing die. http://harrellsprec.com/index.php/categories/reloading-dies

Get a L E Wilson seating die.

H4198 is the most commonly used powder for the 30BR.

Also, Reloader 7, LT-32 and Norma 200 work.

Start with what Al Nyhus recommends in this thread: http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3789308.msg36084639#msg36084639 .

As always, start low and be careful!

You'll find the 30 BR to be very easy to tune and very stable.

Depends on the bullet, temperature, etc. You can use the stability calculator on Berger's site.

Off the top of my head, 125 for sure and perhaps 135.

Try the Speer 125 grain TNT. Very impressive.

From what I have read and understand the length of the bullet plays a bigger role in stabilization on the 30br than weight.

I agree with what Greg said but keep in mind it might not shoot the Nosler Ballistic tips...you'll have to verify. I did the math and I was pretty well certain my 1:18 would not shoot them.

It is an awesome round but I wouldn't even attempt much past 2-250y because the wind really messes with these things.

Ok thanks guys! I think my dad might have some 125 bts that I can try. I'll just try to pick up bullets as I find them.

On the other hand, if it's NOT very windy (or if the wind is steady) it will do well out to 400 yards easy. The Midwest VHA match last may was at 100, 300 & 400 yards and I shot it with my 30BR. I was squeezed into 2nd place by a 6.5x47 by one point. My 400 yd. 5 shot group was 1.11" I've shot some awesome 500 yd groups with it in calm conditions too.

The problem right now is getting any 30 BR-ish bullets. There is a problem with 30 cal jacket supply. I'd recommend starting with the 125 TNT.

You'll do great with them for your purpose.

Greg that's actually the bullet I wanna shoot but can't find any. Next on the list would be Sierra 110 hps but can't find any of those.

Yes, the big problem with the 30BR right now is finding bullets. I know good shooters who have stopped shooting them because they ran out of bullets. I may have enough to get through next season, but I need to get more as soon as I can. My bullet of choice is the BIB 118 grain. I was using the Fowler 117 grain with great success, but he stopped making them.

I have 18 twist 30BR and it shoots 125gr TNT real well 125gr nosier shoot good but you only get 50 in a box and 125gr TNT comes with 100 in a box

You might try sorting them on base to ogive. I've shot some good scores with them

I'm just gonna keep my eyes open for whatever I can get. I wont be shooting matches with it so I'm just gonna get whatever I can get ahold of.

You might go ahead and order from Ronnie Cheek.
I ordered 500 about 2 months ago. They showed up today
