30BR - Any magazine feeding issues ?

Has anybody built a 30BR which is mag fed? i.e. a multi shot

I am starting a new project soon using a 1 in 13 twist Lilja barre match to a Stiller Tac30 action mounted on a Larzzeroni MacMilllan sporter stock,non-thumbhole)

If somebody has built something similar which magazine system have you used and what modifications have you done? I would appreciate it very very much if you cna share your experience

I plan to shoot 125 grain Nosler ballistic tips for deer / antelope hunting in Europe and to develop subsonic loads for hunting up to 120 yards in dense woodland with a canned silencer

Again any load you guys care to share woulid be appreciated I read here that one cannot go wrong with H4198.

Thanks Benjamin londonhunter

Mines a re-barreled Tikka 22/250 model 595

The 595 magazine in 22/250 has a block in it that the 308 mag doesn't- means I have a 5 shot rep that feeds a slick as snot to use a gross expression

It means that the BR rounds work great through this single stack style magazine.

I have both a 6 BR and a 30 BR built on Tikka actions and they work very well

You might want to look at some of the 6.5 grendel magazines and see how they feed for a BR case- bigger feed lips than a 223 but smaller than a 308- with a bit of massaging you should be able to get them to work

nope no loads- still workin on a couple
RL10X and 322 look to be ok with heavier projectiles
Mines a 1:12.5 or 1:13 twist full bore barrel

I'll be trying everything from 125 TNT and NBT's to 185 Lapua's

pity "cans" are 110% illegal over here in Australia

I'm having a similar rig put together for close range deer hunting also. I'll using the same bullets. With a 1:17 Pac-Nor. Mine is on a Sako L579. It uses a staggered magizine. The is either a tech article or Gun of the week article on this site that describes getting a 700 to feed 6BR rounds. It involves putting a block in the back of mag. and shortening the follower. I also talked to another L579 owner who did the exact same thing to his to feed BR cases. He sent me a pic but I cant upload it because I put it in a word file with his post. But if you want me to mail it to you send me a PM.

With the 125 Nosler ballistic tip if you put it into the shoulder of a 100 to 250 pound deer you will not need a magazine fed rifle. I use this bullet in both my 308 and 30HBR and one shot is all it has ever taken. That bullet is a real deer killer. I have never had a deer take even one step after being hit with one and I have killed somewhere between 15 & 20 deer with this bullet. Hope everything works out for you.

Thank you for sharing your valuable experience. Can you tell me what kind of drop do you get at 200 / 300 yards for rifle zeroed to 100 yards.

I zero my rifles for deer hunting 3 inches high at 100 yards. With the 308 21.5 inch barrel 46 grs IMR 4895 and the 125 gr NBT at 3000 fps it is 3.5 inches high at 200 yards and 3.5 inches low at 300 yards. With the 30X47 HBR 24 inch barrel 42 grs IMR 4895 and the 125 NBT will run average 2800 fps and it will be 3.5 inches high at 200 yards and 5 inches low at 300 yards. This is out of my rifles with my scope hight set up. You may get different averages if your scope is set up higher or lower on the action. I can hold in the center of the front shoulder of the average deer and not worry about being over or under from point blank to 300 yards but I do fudge the cross hairs up just a touch with the 30X47 when it is around 300 yards. I am going to get to do some more experimenting this deer season. They are again having unlimited doe permits and there are a bunch of doe that need harvesting where I hunt. I helped control hunt this 1800 acer farm for 13 years and helped my buddy take 100 deer a year each year. They lost the program 3 years ago but the last two years the state of NC has had unlimited doe permits in that section. Don't get me talking about a 25-06. All you have to do is hold it up and show it to a deer and they just fall dead.:D:D
