30BR loads with scot 4197??

Just converted a Howa Mini from a 7.62x39 to a 30BR. Thought I had some 4198 and im totally out. I do have about 5lbs of Scot Brigadier 4197. Anyone have a load for that powder? Shooting the Barnes 110 Tac-TX bullets. Can't seem to find much load data. Any help would be great, Thanks!

I have no direct experience with this powder, but some online research leads to a general similarity of characteristics between this powder and VV N-133. That also places it in the vicinity of IMR-4198 and H4198.

VV-N133 will work great with heavier weight class bullets in 1 - 17 or 1 - 15 tw barrels. VV-N130 is better with the lighter weight class bullets in both my hunting & B R rifles.

No experience with the 4197 but if it's similar to n133, that puts it as quite a bit too slow for the more common 110-125 gr bullets mostly used in a 30 BR in br competition anyway. It may shoot well but velocity will likely be low with those weights is all. You'll probably run out of capacity before you get where they work so well.

That said, RL7, N120, N130 and norma 200 are all good options as well as a few others, a bit faster than n133. H322 is one that I've had to shoot well also but again, a bit slow burning. On the faster side of the ones I mentioned are 5744, 1680 and 4227. Be dang careful with 4227 and I suggest reading the label, staying only with the Aussie version of it.

Great little cartridge. Enjoy!
