30br load decision

NC/Br Shooter

Silver $$ Contributor
After another trip to the range, I get the same dang results , A bunch of small dots all over the target.
But the thing about it really, I'm trying to narrow down my power charge. I've verified my seating depth to the T.
I've came up with two charges that produce the same groups. They average .150
I'm really happy about it. But I got to go with one over the other. So here's what I'm shooting.
30br kreiger 17tw topped with a sightron 45x45
108 clines with lapua brass using V130
34.5 grains has shot several, several, .150 groups
35.5 has shot exactly the same amount of .150s
I've tested above and below 34.5
same thing with 35.5
I've shot groups in .3 grains apart from 33 to 36. Every time, let's say past 5 trips to the range 34.5 and 35.5 have been so dang close I've just not had a clear winner.
The gun has 300rds now and I just can't see a difference in the charges because they shoot about same. Is ther any benefit choosing the higher charge over the lower charge? Or vise versa.?
Should I load ten of each and have a shoot out next trip? Just curious if anyone has experienced a load dilemma like this where you have two options and have to choose.
thanks

From my experience and speaking of the 30BR only in this case there are more than one "node" that will perform well in the scheme of load development. If you keep testing in different conditions and at other distances than 100 yds. eventually you will see one that tends to group better than the other.

Shot some Lt 30 last night right before sundown. Had everything with me. And figured what the heck. Shot 3 at 34.5 and then three more at 34.5, then three at 35 then 3 at 35.3.
35.3 Was a great as in. One hole.
I've been back and forth some on V130 and Lt30. I just happened to have more v130.
After yesterday, I'm thinking of buying some more Lt30.
How good or bad is Lt30 lot to lot?

buy as much of the same lot as you can.

Which powder charge has a wider seating depth node? I shoot about 5 shots at 100 for bore sighting per bbl. After that, 200.
As far as seating depth goes, I've tested both powders with same seating depth tests and all I've found out is once I come out of the lands it goes down hill.
Good question though

Little holes at 100 yards are too commonplace from the 30BR to answer the minutiae.
Shoot it at 200, under flags, and at 300 if good conditions, under flags. Unless your plan is to only shoot 100 yards, matches are won at the longer distances.

I'd be keen on knowing how the gun shot in between 34.5 and 35.5. Often, getting equally great groups a grain apart usually means it will often shoot well in between those close powder charges. If it does, I'd be inclined to go right in between them, giving added insurance for temperature changes at the range if you pre-load your ammo before going out. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to pick the higher velocity charge and make note of the temperature at which you fired it and got that great accuracy - so that you can adjust off that 2/10 or 3/10 (example) of a grain up or down to suit cooler or warmer temps (respectively).
