30br in a pistol

Putting together a pistol build on a rem variant action to hunt in a shotgun zone.
I’m leaning 30br bc of accuracy and efficiency. Thinking 125 Nosler bt or similar maybe even 155 class bullets.
Any experience in a similar setup out there with velocity and recoil?

Barrel length will play a big role in velocity here. Most guys run 14-16 inch barrels on pistols with 308 bores, but the 30BR will give you a little wiggle room for a shorter barrel if you're not looking at long shots.

The 125 NBT is a proven killer at the velocities you'll get out of a handgun. 30 Herrett shooters have been using it for decades.

While efficiency favors smaller cartridges in this setting, bigger cases with more powder will get you higher velocities.

Left or right hand action? What bolt face?

I think it'll make for an effective hunting rig, as would many other chamberings.

I think it sounds like a cool idea and a great cartridge for it. My 16” 3 groove Lilja will push a 125 SST over 2,900. I run it at 2,875 with H4198. It’s the rifle I grab when heading out to the lease for targets of opportunity
