30BR fire forming

Does 32grs. of Accurate AA 2015 seem like a safe load to fire form 30BR's with a 110gr Carbine bullet (FMJ-new)?
Savage action, 1-17 twist, sm. rifle primers. OAL will leave the bullet short of the lands. Jump not jam.

No expert here (only done 100 rds). I haven't used that powder but did use RL-7 which is similar to the 2015. I would back down a bit on the charge for the first firing. Fill the case with powder up to the bottom of the neck. With RL-7 that was around 28 gr. I fired mine the first time with this lighter load, trimmed the neck, fired with full load and cases came out fine with no doughnut formed.

Good luck

Just finished a second fire forming of 97 rounds of 30BR. I used H-4198 [the powder of choice for the 30BR] using different leftover lots, and Sierra's 110 grain bullets instead of custom made bullets, just touching the lands. I used my normal competitive load of 34.2 grains of H-4198, lightly lubing the outside of each case, especially the neck, for both fire formings .

Everybody has a method. I'm cheap and won't/can't waste money or my barrels on fireforming loads. I have done 400 30 BR cases from 6 BR cases with the necks expanded, turned to size, and loaded with the test loads of H4198 and Euber or BIB bullets that I compete with. The so-called fireform loads shoot just as well as they do now with dozens of firings on them.

There are some cartridges that need extensive blowing out, etc., that might need a special fireforming load, but not the 30 BR. If you're planning to shoot "short-range" BR start with about 33.4 of H4198 with whatever quality bullet you're going to compete with, and work up .4 gr. at a time. The 30 BR is one of the easiest to load, most accurate rounds I've ever seen.

With a 118-gr. bullet you should find a sweet spot around 33.8 to 34.4; with a 115-gr. it will be up a bit further. Don't waste your barrel on plinker bullets.

Good luck, Reed
