30BR die question.

Just out of curiosity. A buddy of mine is moving out of state and gave me a lot of his reloading things. One of them being a NIB LE Wilson 30BR FL die. And a bunch of other very nice things.

I finished fireforming my 30BR brass and have been planning on sending 3 pieces into harrells for a couple weeks now but haven't gotten around to it.

My question is, what exactly am I gaining by getting a Harrels die over using the LE Wilson? I keep seeing they are the best, but for what reason?

Thanks fellas

It all depends on how well the fit is between your chamber specs and what results you get with that die. Harrell's dies for the 30BR, as well as others, are numbered as to how much they size the base and shoulder. That way you can get one that will size your cases to match your chamber. That Wilson die may be a perfect fit, but the odds aren't really good. If you keep pushing the shoulder back beyond .002 and the cases still won't fit, the body isn't being sized enough, and that die is never going to work for you.

To add to what Bronsin said - Harrel's has multiple dies cut with varying I.D.s and they match up the one closest to your chamber. If I were to bet on one being the best fit for your particular chamber, I think the odds are better with Harrel's. With the Wilson - you get one shot to fit all chambers.
