Im having trouble finding a bbl I want.
So Im looking here and ther, for other alternatives. Not so much 17 vs 18 twist But rather, 6 groove verses 4 groove.
Anyone have a preference other one verses the other?

Not real sure about groove # but the Lilja barrels have a huge reputation for shooting extremely accurate.

Out here looking for one, I finally found one.It just so happens to be a 6 groove.
So, I'll be getting to answer my own question in the near future.
Seems like it might be harder to clean a 6 verses a 4 groove. That's just speculation though

I have a #11 Krieger 17 twist on one of my 30BRs and I love it. My 30BR weighs about 18 pounds and it really mitigates the recoil. I have a light weight 223 rem and I feel like the 223 recoils more.

What bbl manufacturers make a 6 groove, and which ones make 4 groove.?
Iv only had Kreiger 17 twist . Im not sure what groove count they were. Im still shooting one from last year Its got to have over 2000 rds through it. Still shooting 23,and 24x counts match days.

I believe Bartlein and Krueger are 4 or 5r.
In 30 cal Lilja is only 3g.
Not sure about Brux.
Pacnor I think is 5g.

I have never shot anything but a 4 Groove, preferably 1-18 twist for my own 112 grn bullet in my 30BR.
It would be interesting to see how a 6 Groove would work.

Here's a question. Iv always took new brass and expanded it, then turned it. Iv got a 6br bbl that was given to me. So I plan to shoot it, and when I get done shooten the 6, it will be time to get the new 30 up and going.
If you neck turned 6br, then expanded it, What should you turn the 6 down to ,to then expand to a .330 chamber?
This is only a thought, I have not thought this out.

Frankly number of grooves does not matter in cleaning or shooting. We went through all this back in the early 90's. The quality of the barrel steel does matter followed by the shooter who can shoot it and make ammo that can shoot!! I recently started shooting nothing but Bartlein barrels. I'm impressed! BTW Bartlein isn't paying me a cent to say this.

^^^^^^ when that came up about cleaning, I was thinking. Damn my brushes are all round and have bristles all the way around how much more work can it be?

Since part of the shoulder becomes the neck when you expand 6BR brass you will have to turn necks anyway to remove the donut that forms on the outside of the shoulder/neck junction. I've been using 7BR brass to form 30BR brass, much better. I shoot a .332" chamber.
