30BR Bore Cam Questions

A friend gave me his 30BR because it was having some issues. First thing I did was clean it thoroughly. The throat was in need of a serious scrubbing so I gave it a little JB treatment. Looked like I had just cleaned a chimney. I have a bore scope that I like to play around with here and there but I'm not really entirely familiar with identifying everything I see, so I'm gonna throw some pictures at you experts. First up we have the ring of gunk right before the rifling. It goes 360 around the chamber. All the same color. Is the 2nd picture some gnarly fire cracking in the rifling? Appreciate the responses.

looks like it's time for a bore scrubbing with something stronger than JB. If it were mine I would use a bronze brush with OOOO steel wool wrapped around it along with a thin fluid like WD40 or a light machine oil. 10 strokes followed with a clean patch. You might be surprised at the junk that will come out. It will take hundreds of strokes to wear out the bore.

I honestly have no idea what that is.

First picture looks like some kind of abrasive that wasn't removed.

Second picture looks like copper fouling, but I can't comprehend how it would be in radial bands like that.

Edit - my photos don't image like that.

Second photo is some gnarly copper fouling. Get after that with some copper solvent. You'll likely see pitting under it once it's gone, too.

First photo I'm still contemplating.....

First photo is boogers that just need to be wiped out. Second is smuggling alligators - and the fire cracking is full of copper.
Yeah, you're probably correct.

Imagine what the actual throat probably looks like, as what I'm seeing is past that.

Horrors.

Probably a tent stake now.

I suspect ignorance on the part of the owner without more information. That barrel might have been a hummer.

It ain't now.

I would venture to guess, from what I know, that a couple patches and an occasional quick pass with a brush and a less than ideal cleaning solvent after the range are all that got done to it.

It looks terrible. I would think a Hart barrel would look much better. You have major copper fouling going on, plus carbon up. What does the barrel look like down the bore a few inches pass the chamber??

To see if there is any hope
Brother, you canNOT seriously throw that at the feet of Hart.

You--and we--have no real idea of round count, and only have an idea if how well that barrel has NOT been taken care of.
