30BR ACCURACY @ LONGER DISTANCE

ok yes but not if you have any 9's....
awarding an 11 covers up a 9 which is a miss in score
just 2 cents worth
The better shooters still win but it keeps more shooters in the game longer. Back when I shot IBS I hated seeing shooters pack up and leave after an early 9. Plus, guy shoots clean but only 9 Xs. Another guy gets caught in a switch, or sneezes and shoots a 249 and 22 Xs. Who would you pick to shoot a golf ball of your head at 100 yds. I would pick the best shooter....22Xs. Who would you pick?

But if you are practicing i would prefer to measure groups the way they would in a match. Just my opinion though. Same reason i use real target paper
big diff in casual shooters and comp shooters.
quality paper and a backer to support it tends to give nice clean holes.
my 308 shot 295 holes ...300 wsm

nope the 250 zero x...but all tens not a 249 with one x which becomes a 250 ....but he wins ???

A 249 and 22 is a 271 score while a 250 and 9 is a 259. 11s place a premium on shots closer to "dead center". Again, it keeps more shooters in the match longer, thus more interest. I was actually initially against this but at our club we voted on scoring our groundhogs matches this way because the shooters saw thru our UBR target matches how it kept more of them competitive. It rewards percise shooting and allows a chance to come back from a mistake.

I like the UBR format myself, and I also think the bonus of the tie
breaking system of X's is antiquated. The whole Idea is to keep
em' in the 10 ring. Do that and you win. What I'm getting at is.....
The groups being shot currently by competitors tells me the 10
ring is too large and needs to be adjusted. Now stay with me !!
Lets take the UBR target for instance. That tiny center dot would
be your ten count. and the 10 ring would be your nine. Current
rifles and components make the old style targets look like barn
doors. What say you ??

The .30 BR is competitive at 300 in the RIGHT hands. The 6 PPC will beat it in good conditions, but the 6 BRA with high BC will beat both on a typical day. The short .30 caliber bullets are just TOO wind sensitive for most shooters. At our local range, the 6PPC and the .30 BR seldom come out on top. We shoot 4 targets for score only on the 300 IBS score target. In the last match, I decided to try the 6 PPC. Of the 4 targets, I shot three 50's but during the third match, I lost the first shot and ended up with a 47. It cost me the match to a 6 BRA.

A lot of N133 and N135 depending on bullet and twist these days as well. Cast bullets move so slow that the varget eats the barrel alive.
I see that's(VV) what the guys use these days.Varget worked ok for me though.i remember Larry Jennings had about 30k through his Hart barrel with about 4 setbacks before the back of the barrel looked like a firecracked long taper.Being he used and Ardito throat and a giant bullet that may have helped it shoot.

ubr is like having a smaller size goal post for the team that won the super bowl.
the basket smaller for the top nba team
in english a game developed by 6ppc shooters that could not compete againts 30br in the score game

And if the IBS had common sense instead of worrying about their records they would not have lost the shooters who left the game over it. I was in the game when the 30 came out, over the next several years score attendance ended up dropping. If the IBS had somehow accommodated their current customers in some way they might have kept more of them. It seems you have to be somebdy to count in the IBS. Certian folks want electronics on the bench its ok, the rule was no electronics. I like the 30 but I hated when at that time I started to go to groundhogs shoots then went back to an IBS score match and counted 1/3 of the shooters as before. At our club the shooters asked for the 11 point system. Ignore your customers and you will become history. Where are 90% of the new shooters going? Not benchrest. To answer your question, the NBA took away defense, folks like offense. Superbowl winners goes to the bottem of the draft if an effort to keep the game competetive.

Up in my area of Pa. IBS is gone. The only club I knew of close
to me had a nice range but only 6 shooters when I visited. That
range has now expanded it's trap houses, and no longer shoots
any type of bench rest. UBR is a bit further drive for me but I'm
enjoying it. You'll see a good 20 shooters and that say's something
since on any given weekend there are other matches going on.

As for the 30br at longer distance. I like looking at the physics of
things. And I do like a larger caliber, and weighted bullets. And why
I chose to explore the 7mm/.284's.

You can look at the caliber neutral aspect of UBR any way you want but the fact is, it puts the 30s, 22s and 6s on an even field, as far as scoring goes.

To your second point..well, you're just plain wrong about its origins. The man that owns UBR came from IBS score shooting and like most in that game, campaigned a 30 br or some variation of it, for as long as I can remember...and he did quite well at it.

If you've tried UBR and didn't like it, that's one thing and of course you can choose not to shoot it.
If you've never tried it, I guess you can still have your opinion but you have to admit that it's not based on actual experience, but something else.

Whatever you think about it, it has been successful and in a relatively short period of time, with lots more room to grow. The game allows other calibers to be competitive. It doesn't handicap any caliber. Now think about that last statement. Maybe there's a reason everyone shoots a 30 in the other score games. Ubr is the only short range br game that has a good mix of different calibers and chamberings competing head to head.

Now back to the original subject...I've seen some impressive groups with 30BRs at 600 but the stars have to align and conditions be good.

What Mike says! As a side bar, where I shoot UBR, I’m the only guy shooting a 30. Most of the rest are shooting PPC’s. Sometimes I do too.
When UBR first started in 2011, most everyone was still shooting their. IBS rifles, mostly 30BRs. And yes, where you're at, mostly PPCs up there. And they now outnumber everything else, overall. The Nats are a good place to see what's being done and what's working. I think just about everything has won or made good showings under this format.
