I just aquirred a 30br 12 twist barrel 24" long. Can anyone tell me about loads and bullet weights. Everything I have read is a 17 twist. Please some help.

I'm just starting to play round with RL-10X and 185 grain Lapuas in my 1:13

Also the local EQ of H4198 with a 125 TNT

Started wit h30 grains of either as a start load-- I didn't know a start load for the 10X and the 185's so I just chose an amount to start at

That is a fast twist for a 30BR. Make sure it is not a 30HBR that was popular with the hunter benchrest shooters. It is a different cartridge and runs a different neck size. I have a 1:16, 1:17, and 1:18 twist 30BR. I have shot some 150 Sierra MatchKings in the 1:16 with H4198. They stabilized fine. Sierra has load tables for the 30BR with heavier bullets. I thought I had it but can't seem to find them.

I would be looking at the 125gr TNT Speers at 3,000 fps in my 17 twit they are very accurate and a friend up north has one in a faster twist and it also is dead accurate. Use H4198 and start at about 32 grains mine shoots the 125 gr speer with 33.5gr AR2207 which is the same as H4198 as its rebadged H4198 over your side of the pond if in the USA

356tsw,

I found my load tables. Send me a PM with your email and I will you the table was a pdf file. It has loads for 110-200 gr bullets. You will be amazed how fast you can push a 168 SMK with this little case. I thought a 308 was efficient, but the 30BR will push a 168SMK to almost 2600 fps with more than 10 grain less of powder than a 308.

One of mine is a 15 twist,32 gr of VVN 135 moves 135SMK's along nicely with room for more.
35 gr Benchmark works well with hornady 155 AMAX.
33.5gr H-4198 was best for 115 Berger and 34.5 gr H-4198 was very accurate with 117 Fowlers,Scheider) but it took quite a "tug" to get the bolt open.

tiny68, what powders were you using with the 168's? I tried some 322 with some of the 150gr range and got very poor results. I've got a good supply of 168's and a wide range of powders. If you don't mind, I'd like to hear what you found to as a good starting point with the 168's powder wise, not charge weight wise.I also have the Sierra manual as a guide to work from. I normally use H4198 with the lighter bullets. Thanks in advance.
