30br 1:14 26'' Krieger BULLET/ LOAD RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE

Super info guys, thank you all. I enjoy the history parts as much as the load/bullet info.

I have been gathering a little of everything, and will be trying them all. I don't think I will stop at the one that works, unless it's the last. I will gather and post as much info as I can on all I do with it.
So, one of the last things I need that I can hardly ever find... free time! I can never find as much as I want, it goes WAY to fast if I do get some, and it seems like it is just getting harder to come by these days. Anyone else in this boat? Since I can't find it anywhere, I guess I will just have to start doing something like ummm... making it myself!? (hard to do) Or maybe I should post a WTB add for it? Or how about a group buy thing? If enough people get in on it, we could buy a buttload of free time! Let me know if anyone has any to spare. (I know, it's a very valuable commodity) I have got to get my priorities straight, right? That's a good New Years resolution for me!

Donations welcome.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!!!!

I have always wanted to experiment with a faster twist barrel like 14 or 15 and use 135s, let us all know results , SS is that shooter supply? if it is a savage with a barrel nut then it will make weight even with a 4 pound stock, a lot of local friendly matches don't weigh anyway.

FIRST OUTING- Fire-forming (for fm1947, the gun is from S&S precision rifles)

The rifle is a no-turn neck. (yes, I turned a bunch before I new that)
Lapua 6mmbr brass
PMA 6mm-30cal carbide expander (very nice)
30 degrees, 5-7mph wind with gusts
Speer TNT 125's
@ .010 from the lands
32.5 of H4198
Chrono-15ft from muzzle
Avg-2847fps
StdDev-11.93
Spread-35
Target- 100yrds = 10 shots .403
Notes- Foggy, only had 100yrd decent visibility. I had loaded up 10 rounds each of TNT 125's at 32, 32.5, 33, 33.5 and 34 with H4198. I forgot the bag of 32 on the table at home, but had one in my pocket. I shot it, and the neck separated from the case. Oops, cut too much into the shoulder while neck turning I bet. 32.5 shot great, even for only @2850fps. 33 was not as accurate, and about maybe 50-75fps faster. fog was really rolling in, and it was getting dark, so the chrono wouldn't work, even with the infra red on. I had to just blast the rest, so I could get the forming done. Brass was FL sized w/o bushing, as I felt I had enough neck tension for fire-forming.
Not a lot of info here, I know, but more to come. I have 115's, 118's, 125's and 135's to try. The only 130's I could find are Speer Varmint. Short fatties with a HP you could drive a truck through. I'm anxious to try the 135's but since I'm new at this, I'm not really sure how much powder to start with or what velocity I'm looking for with them. I'm going to try Benchmark, and H322. The brass, chrono and target should eventually tell me if I'm going the right way or not (I hope), but I can't think of anything else I would rather be doing. Ok.. yes. I can think of ONE other thing.
I have found that I'm not in such a hurry to find the perfect combination. Each time out is always a new adventure when you are not quite sure what's going to happen, and I like that. Not that shooting could ever get stale, but it keeps things exciting for me, and more trigger time is always good!

More sooner I hope than later, and as always, thanks to all of you for the help.

For anyone interested, I found quite a bit of data for heavy bullet/slow twist 30br combinations on the Cast Bullet Association page, following a lead from Dave Berg. (thanks Dave) You don't have to be a member, just pull up their page and scroll through the many lists of match results. Most are shooting bullets heavy enough to balance a truck tire, but they list the action, barrel/length twist, bullet, primer, powder, charge and score with that combo. Lots of info, so thanks to CBA for making that available to everyone.

I think that you'll find that the 30 BR with H4198 and the 110-125 pills, at least, like jam. A bunch of jam. Try a run of the TNTs 20-ish thou in. And 3-5 thou neck tension. See how that works.

LESSON LEARNED!!!!

I finally got a call back from "Stick" at S&S Precision about the build specs of the rifle! They don't keep records of the rifles they build, but he said that they only use the Robinett reamer, and that means my rifle must be a 1:16, 1:17 or 1:18 twist with a 330 neck and zero freebore. When I told him that the rifle was advertised and sold to me as a 1:14, he asked the obvious question...DID YOU MEASURE THE TWIST RATE?

AAARRRRGGGGGHHH! Why didn't I? Because I trusted the seller. I like to think I'm smarter than that, but apparently I wasn't, but now I am. I broke the gun down for inspection, cleaning, and to familiarize myself with it when it arrived, but I didn't double check the twist.

I measured the twist 5 times today with a marked cleaning rod, and I have determined that it's a 1:18 barrel. I was excited to have something not many others had, and was looking foreword to finding what it liked, so I'm kinda bummed about that. But... I'm happy it's a 18, and if nothing else, I learned my lesson, and I will ALWAYS check the twist from now on, even on new barrels. Funny how getting things right will teach you a little, but a mistake can teach you a lot.

Question everything.

On competition bench-rest rifles, 1:18" twist barrels are quite common. ;) This twist is suitable for bullets of up to about 1.050" long - generally this will include weights from 110 - 125 Gr. Keep in mind, that, regarding stability, the length is more important than the weight. RG

Arvin (Dave),
Just in case you are unaware, there is some great info on the opening page of Accurate Shooters in the "Daily Bulletin" as well as the specific info written on the "30BR" thanks to RG and some of the other "Founding Fathers" of the 30BR. I found that info to be EXTREMELY useful when I was having a 30BR built due to it's proven accuracy. Of course you'll have to test bullets and powder combo's to find which work best in your particular rifle, but I doubt I could have found my sweet load (that quickly) had it not been for RG, Joe Entrkin and Al Nyhus, who wrote vital info about 30BR loads and shared that info on this website for all to read.

Thanks guys,
Looking foreword to loading some rounds up based on the "new" twist rate data. I'm just not sure what I'm going to do with all the 135's I bought, thinking it was a 1:14. Maybe I will try running a few through the 1:12 .308. Sure would like to try some BIB's, but apparently no .30 cal available!?
I will work with what I have for now, and I am excited to see what the rifle will do with lighter bullets.
