308W with Heavies and Re-16

I need to burn up some 190gr 308 bullets I have laying around during this summers shooting. I would like to avoid using up my Varget supply on the 190's. I'm only looking to get 2500fps+/-.

Has anyone burned RE-16 in 308 with 190 or 190gr+ bullets.

FWIW I have used Re-16 in 6BRX with good results.

I loaded 308win with 190's and H-4350. Compressed load got me 2,720 fps from 24"bbl

Problem I have is heavily compressed loads make bullet seating depth inconsistent at times. But accuracy was superb.

If I was you, I would not bother unless you're looking for a mild load that might leave lots of soot due to not reaching high enough pressure to burn properly.

I loaded a few 190's with Re-16 and Chrono'd them.
308Win
190gr Win Match HPBT's
LC case
Fed 210's
44.0gr Re-16
2550fps
There was a little room left in the case. could probably get to 2700fps or so.

Interesting, have you tried 175gr bullets with H-4350? If so what combo please?

I would bother trying h4350 with 175's... With 190s it was quite compressed. I know Sierra has data with imr4350 in the 308win, but not sure if with 175s. Would have to check.

Back when the .308 was the king of across the course shooting, the "go to" load for 600 yards was a 190 Sierra, with 42 grains (plus/minus 0.5 grains) of IMR 4064, in a Winchester case with a Federal 210 primer. I used that load (+/-) at 1000 yards when I first started shooting long range, out of a 26 inch barrel.

The Sierra data they put out was for 200 , 210 , & 230gr. bullets . 4350 might not work well for a 175gr , unless you are compressing it firmly . May work better with a 185 , but that wasn't the OP's inquiry .

Thanks @corning for that 4064 load info . Have a lots of that powder , and starting to work up multiple loads for .308 , from 175's up to 200.20x .
