308 with 20" barrel

Does anyone have a load for a 308 with a 20" barrel that will net some velocity? The best loads right now have been 43.5gr Varget with 175 SMK at 2360 fps and 44.5gr Varget with 168gr NCCs. Both loads have shot sub 1/2 MOA to 400 yards, but the ballistics are sad. Thanks for any help.

BTW, I am trying H4895 but have not shot any yet.

I use 44grs of Varget with 175s and 46grs with 168s using Lapua brass and Fed 210 primers. Very accurate in my rifle.

I have a Remington LTR with a 20" tube and shoot 43.5 grns varget with the 175 sierras and get 2450 average. I use the same load with the 168's and get less velocity but both loads are under 1/2 moa if I do my part. I personally would rather have accuracy than speed. It will still get you to 7-800 yds.

i am a lowly old service rifle knuckle dragger. I do run 185nakedVLD/190moly VLD bergers and 190naked SMK through a M1 Garand MKII Secretary of the Navy award rifle. (.308) i plunk the bb's on top of 44.2gr (44.0-44.5 is normal) of IMR4320 ~2650FPS, shooting LC brass, projo is set 6-8 thou into lands. this is my 600- 1kyd load. Good BC's esp with the Bergers (thanks to B. Litz). If your in the mood for tinkering. how about trying the D46 (Lapua 175, .311) bullets? they will hug the crap out of your rifling. Maybe get better BC from them? dont write off those 178 Amax's either. I shoot the 80 amax out of my mouse gun and love them. get a box and jam 'em in the lands to see whats up. shooting bolt you can avoid sweating pressure like i do.
