308 win with 200+ bullets

has any one out there tried 200gr. bullets with slower powders like IMR 4831 I would like to push 2550fps out of a 30 in. any thoughts

F class shooters are getting 2650+ from 200s. Seated very long.

Do some searches, and work up! If you try this in a mag length setup you will probably break something.

I've done 190.smk's with H-4350.

Winchester brass did the trick.
Settled on a very compressed load of 49.2 gr h4350 and got 2,720 fps from a 24" bbl.

Shot this load in the winter only and it was super accurate. Worked up this load at the end of the barrel's life, hence why I only shot it in the winter.

Haven't used it in other 308w barrels since.

I have tried IMR 4831 in a 22-250 got 3000fps with 80gr shot very well sub minute, I called hodgdon and asked about if they had any data said they had not played with it. 4831 is a little faster than 4350 I was wondering if it would help the pressure curve a little better in a 30 inch. what powders are the FTR guys using to get the 2650 range?

Varget, and H4895.

Yes, 4895. That is not a typo ;)

2000MR also works, but is not as popular / available.

H4895 got me 2650 almost on the nose from a 30" Krieger, and Varget gets me around 2705 from a 32" Bartlein, both with 200 Hybrid and the 2013 US FTR team chamber (~0.170 freebore). Lots of people are finding peak accuracy in the 2600-2650 range, which can be reached easily enough with a 28-30" barrel.

Unless it's a lot-specific difference, 4831 should be actually somewhat slower than 4350. In any event, it's not solely about velocity. In addition to Varget and H4895, you can probably use other powders in the comparable burn rate region on the chart, such as IMR4320, IMR4064, etc., and still achieve velocities in the same ballpark. An important factor about these powders is that they're all relatively small-grained, which helps with precise dispensing and maintaining uniform velocity in the .308 case. If you really want to experiment with something like 4831, I'd suggest trying 4831sc because of the smaller kernels.
